ART
Art is an important part of
the development of all students. Years 5-7 students begin on the road
of the whole school spiral Art Program. The program develops the understanding
and skills necessary to make, display and respond to works of art.
The Art programme enables the
students to gain a broad, artistic experience. They are given the opportunity
to experiment, explore and invent with a variety of media. Both two-dimensional
and three-dimensional materials and methods are explored and cover as
wide a scope as possible at this level.
The students visually express
something about the world in which they live, their experiences and knowledge
through their Art work. This communication should be encouraged, developed
and extended.
DRAMA
Students in Years 5-7 will have the opportunity to experience Drama giving
them a chance to explore improvisation, simple play-building skills and
to extend their powers of imagination and lateral thinking.
Through Drama, they will improve their communication skills and their
group interactions, giving them a basis for furthering their interest
in Drama, and also assisting with ELA and Social Studies.
MUSIC
AIMS OF MUSIC
· To foster a love of Music as a pleasurable experience
· To develop students' ability to listen to music intelligently
· To develop music literacy skills through singing and recorder
playing
· To involve students in all aspects of Music making, including
instrumental and vocal performance, conducting, improvising and creative
writing.
Each week, students have one
class Music lesson, in which they sing, listen, play the recorder and
classroom percussion instruments move to Music and write in their workbook.
In year 5 all students participate in the scholarship based instrumental
program, learning in groups of three. In years 6 and 7, students may continue
in the Instrumental Program for additional cost. In year 6 and 7 all students
learn the basics of music literacy.
CHOIR
The years 5-7 choir is open
to all students who enjoy singing and wish to develop their talents. A
commitment to attend weekly practices is essential. The choir entertains
the aged and sick, performs at Eisteddfods and Music Festivals, and sings
at School Liturgies. In addition, students in Years 5-7 attend a choir
session each fortnight.
