5-7 Japanese
St. Joseph's College
Gregory Terrace
JAPANESE
Japanese introduces the student
to learning a language other than English. As well, they are able to learn
about Japanese culture.
The study of a foreign language
should not appear as something strange or unusual. Our own society is
multi-cultural. We are simply learning how other people speak and think.
An awareness of another language can assist in improving communication
skills in one's own language. Moreover, there is a mental discipline required
which is a valuable asset in the developing mind.
Japanese is a language that
is widely spoken throughout the world. It is a country that has extensive
trading ties with Australia and is also a popular holiday place for Japanese
people.
Communicative topics suitable
for beginners such as greetings, names, age, brothers, sisters, counting
will be chosen. These will be reinforced with games, songs, poems, and
colouring activities. The students learn the four skills of reading, writing,
listening and speaking.
We hope to arouse interest,
to create enthusiasm, to allow the student to enjoy the experience of
learning a language other than English.
