Maroon
As part of the students' development at Terrace, each student participates
in a 4 day Outdoor Education programme at the College Outdoor Education
Centre on the shores of Maroon Dam. This is part of an ongoing programme
that involves students in Years 8, 9 and 10.
The Year 8 programme
involves the students in a range of outdoor activities that include canoeing,
abseiling, orienteering, and environmental awareness. These have a three-fold
purpose in the areas of
(a) skill development
(b) academic development
(c) social development.
Because the programme
is an ongoing one, some equipment items are necessary and are used when
the student is at each Year level. These include;
1. A SLEEPING BAG
of good quality for the students undertaking camp out during the cooler
months. It is recommended you purchase a compact hiking sleeping bag from
a Professional Outdoor Equipment supplier. You require a synthetic filled
sleeping bag - Qualofill / dacron / hollow polyester fibre.
2. A WATERPROOF RAINCOAT
for times of inclement weather. The programme goes on regardless. It is
stressed that a spray jacket is often inadequate and suitable japara type
should be obtained.
