Middle School Drama - an evolving vision for a changing world

Middle School Drama encompasses a range of styles and skills. Focusing on the idea of the spiral curriculum, students develop gradually more complex understandings and abilities from Years 5 to 10.

Junior Middle School

All units in Year 5, 6 and 7 are studied as term long units. They are designed to correlate with the work being done in the students' core curriculum areas - English, Science, SOSE and RE.

Year 5

  • An Archeological Exploration - uncovering the history of Terrace - past and future
  • Australia's Past - becoming bushrangers and explorers
  • Wicked Weather - looking at the shapes of these astonishing natural forces
  • Wild Words - transforming every day words into works of art

Year 6

  • Science Fiction - designing the world of the future
  • CSI Antarctica - investigating the mysteries of Mawson
  • Personal Biographies - imagining my life one hundred years from now
  • Family Biographies - planning a cultural celebration of our heritages

Year 7

  • Theatre for Living - using theatre to find justice
  • Media Biographies - discovering how the media can change our point of view
  • Small Towns / Big Dreams - bringing to life playwrights' visions of our world
  • The Whole Story - finding ways to use voice, movement and text to bring words to life

 

Year 8 Integrated Arts

Students will explore the links between Drama, Media, Music and Visual Art. Working with a team of teachers, they will develop skills across these disciplines.

Students work on themes such as:

  • Community
  • Get an Attitude
  • Technology in Society
  • Living Things
