What will you be doing during the Consultant in Residency?

Year Task
year's 5-7

A Healthy Lunchbox. You (and your parents) will be challenged to examine what you are eating for lunch, and for snacks.

Lesson 1: Your HPE teacher will introduce you to the task and organise you into a group of four. You will also revisit some of the Nutrition information you have already studied.

Lesson 2: The experts from Nutrition Australia will take you through some fun and interesting food activities. Before your next lesson you will need to find your favourite lunch / snack recipe.

Lesson 3: Your HPE and class teacher will work with your group as you compare and contrast recipes and ideas, and decide on which recipe your group would like to be entered into the Healthy Lunch Cookbook.

Some classes will also be participating in exercise sessions run by Zest Health Club during your HPE lessons.

year 8

Year 8 core classes will be broken into groups of 4 to work on one of three tasks - a healthy dinner / breakfast recipe, exercise hints and ideas or a tuckshop analysis. The end product of each group will be included into the Healthy Lunchbox Book.

Lesson 2, Tuesday 27th July, periods 1 and 2, GT125 Theartre: You will work with experts from Nutrition Australia to complete your task.

Some classes will also be participating in exercise sessions run by Zest Health Club during your HPE lessons.

year 9

Year 9 will extend work from their 'You Are What You Eat' HPE unit.

Seminar, Thursday 29th July, periods 1 and 2, GT125 Theartre: Guest speakers - Aloysa Hourigan from Nutrition Australia (click here for Aloysa's presentation) , and Michael Dezuanni from QUT. Click here to view Mr Dezuanni's presentation.

year 10

Year 10 will participate in a seminar to examine nutritional requirements for adolescents with Rodger Fitzgerald - specialist Physiotherapist and Nutrition for sport with Kellie Hogan - Nutritionist to the Qld Reds. Tuesday 3rd August, periods 1 & 2 in the GT125 Theartre.

Some classes will also be participating in exercise sessions run by Zest Health Club during your HPE lessons.

year 11

Professor Brett McDermott will be conducting a workshop with year 11 examining the issues of resilience and mental health. Wednesday 4th August, periods 1 & 2 in the GT125 Theartre

Some classes will also be participating in exercise sessions run by Zest Health Club during your PE lessons.

year 12

Kerri Cullen, personal training guru from KISS Training will conduct workshops with grade 12 group to develop effective tips and strategies to maintain and enhance health and well being during times of stress and change. These sessions will occur during selected RE classes.
