Senior Drama - an evolving vision for a changing world

St. Joseph's College
Gregory Terrace

Senior Drama examines the ways in which culture reflects our voice and challenges our world vision.

Students explore this through:

  • theatre excursions
  • working with professional theatre companies
  • study of theatre through history, literature, politics, philosophy and religion

Year 11 Drama develops a chronological approach to Drama, exploring 4000 years of history in a fast paced twelve months.

From comedy to tragedy, mask to mayhem, students are encouraged to evolve a sense of theatrical styles and conventions, and to build their own skills in each of these.

Year 11 students are also eligible to enter the Queensland Theatre Company "Young Playwrights Awards" as a focus for their Term 4 work. This competition sees the winning work presented as a polished professional reading, under the guidance of one of QTC's directors.

Year 12 Drama specifically looks at Drama in the last century. Focusing first on Australian Drama, and then moving into areas chosen by the students, the idea of finding and articulating your own voice is critical.

Assessment is designed to extend the skills developed in Year 11, so that students can maximise their successes.
