The following are outlines of the content of the Cluster Programs:
Choose Your Own Adventure
Students will use PowerPoint to design a conflict situation where choices must be made. They will explore the consequences of different choices through storyboarding and hyperlinks. This will culminate in the production of an interactive PowerPoint presentation. Time permitting, students will use animation and graphics to enhance their presentation. This process of choices and consequences forms the basis of most computer games.
This activity will require a computer lab with a computer for each participant. Each student will need a storage device such as a USB or floppy disc with sufficient space to store their work,
Decipher This
Students take a brief look at the history of codes, their use and their implications.
Use of the Internet is expanding beyond anyone's expectations. As corporations, government offices, and ordinary citizens begin to rely on the information highway to conduct business, they are realizing how important it is to protect their communications.
MUVE
Explore Virtual Environments and then author an adventure story using a virtual world. This Cluster activity explores MOOs and MUDs as places to learn."
Seeing is Believing
Using an interactive PowerPoint presentation students look at the physical function of the eye and how the brain constructs vision according to certain rules. Optical illusions show how these rules do not always apply. What are the purposes of sight and how do we use it? They then address the question of what makes us visually literate in this increasingly visual society. Groups then internet research the Appollo moon landing and present their cases based on the visual information.
