Introduction
The Faculty of Information
Communication Technologies is a Service Faculty (like Learning
Support and Library) and was formed to capitalise on the relationship
between teaching and Information Communication Technologies. Our charter
is to offer learners (Students and Teachers) practical support, encouragement
and guidance in all ICT matters. This includes ICT skills development,
cooperative planning and co-teaching.
Our students are
required to master a broad range of associated ICT skills to equip them
for the modern connected world. We aim to provide access to electronic
and information resources (computers and network services) that facilitate
effective learning and teaching.

An important component
of the role of Mr
Peter Whitehouse (HOF Information Communication Technologies) is
technology strategic planning in collaboration with Mr
Martin Humphreys (Network System Manager) and Mr
Lee Lafferty (Administration Systems Manager). This will work towards
providing a blueprint to support technical innovation and transparent
use of information services across the curriculum for students, teachers
and other members of the Terrace Family. The HOF ICT has been appointed
to assist the College in exploring the potential learning outcomes made
possible using pervasive ICTs.
Information Services
offers cooperative planning and visioning with the aim of enhancing
the learning experiences we can offer our students, and the general
Terrace community. We also play major roles in managing and providing
our students with access to up to date Information Environments to enhance the teaching and learning.
Teachers in this field include Mr
Bob Maidens (Middle School ICT Coordinator) and Mr
Peter Whitehouse (IPT Coordinator and HOF ICT).
Our Network
Systems Manager, was appointed as our professional IT support person
and provides technical support as well as industry insight into
the development of long term strategic planning for ICT across our campuses.
Martin also oversees our Help Desk and hardware acquisition program.
Our Network Engineers Mr Michael Knauth and Mr Gavin McLean ensure services are delivered in a professional, timely and flexible way, time and budget permitting.
Services
The Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies in collaboration with the IT Department remain actively involved in a number of computing projects, with the aim of enriching the available web and network services available to students and teachers. We are actively involved in discussions for Technology Master planning, along with provisioning technological innovations that feature in our newest campus – Waterford Place.
We have been involved in extensive trials of wireless portable computing devices. Collaborative Computing models have been further explored this year with our educational MOO, an online learning environment, being widely used in the lower and middle schools. A Moodle, which is specialist content and learning management system software, has effectively delivered aspects of curriculum in the senior school further enriching our online presence. This has been complimented by our school-delivered, web enabled Email system called Tm@il for all students.
Teachers and students enjoy a rich and powerful collection of network services which are a tribute to planning and hard work of many people, including our Network Systems Manager Mr Martin Humphreys, and our Network Engineers Mr Peter See (past employee) and Mr Michael Knauth.
ICT Staff this year have involved them in an increasing amount of co-teaching and cooperative planning of units with other teachers, and this is in line with the aim to, as much as is practical, integrate ICT skills into all aspects of the curriculum.
Much time and thought has gone into strategic planning for technology here at Terrace due to our limited budget and increasing demands for access and services. The planning is now reflected in the GT130 and Beyond Strategic Plan which incorporates technology outcomes and identifiable goals.
We are committed to exploring safe, secure and sustainable options that will provide Terracians with access to powerful tools that enrich their learning and are appropriate to their needs.
Mr Peter R Whitehouse
