Year 8 Japanese Course Outline

YEAR 8 JAPANESE COURSE OUTLINE

Term 1 - Hiragana

Reading and Writing Hiragana

Students will be issued with a "Hiragana Booklet" to help them in their study of this topic. Students will participate in many games to help consolidate their comprehension of hiragana through: BINGO, NOUGHTS&CROSSES, KARUTA, BATTLESHIP, SUPERGRIPS, TAG, TIMING GAME.

Greetings and Basic Self Introductions

おはようございます、こんにちは、こんばんは、もしもし、さようなら、じゃね、またね、おやすみなさい、はじめまして、どうぞよろしく、おなまえは?

Classroom instructions

きりつ、れい、ちゃくせき、すわってください、たってください、はいってください。ならんでください

Culture

Students will learn about the geography of Japan including ほっかいどう、ほんしゅう、しこく、きゅうしゅう、とうきょう、

きょうと、なら、ひろしま、さっぽろ、おおさか、ながさき。We will cover the population of Japan and the Japanese flag too.

Students will also learn about the famous landmarks in Japan including Fujisan, Hiroshima's Atomic Bomb Dome, the difference between temples and shrines and one good example of each (Itsukushima Shrine or Meiji Shrine, Kinkakuji Temple or Todaiji Temple).

Term 2 - Self-Introduction

Students will learn about how to talk about themselves.

Topics include:-

name, age, grade, phone number, nationality, likes and dislikes and family.

Culture

Students will learn about famous Japanese people including samurai, ninja, geisha, The Royal Family, a number of sporting stars, a number of singers and actors and a couple of new "styles" of people which are emerging currently in Japan.
