Explore the Mission of Religious Education at Terrace
The Religious Education Program at St Joseph ’s College, Gregory Terrace has two distinct components. These interconnect with each other but have differing expectations.
One component takes place in the classroom, and it is here where the students cover aspects of religious knowledge, religious ritual and prayer. Understanding the Bible, interpreting scripture, investigating and learning about church teaching and comparative religion study are some of the areas dealt with in this component. Students will be required to undertake assignments, present orals, sit for examinations and participate in excursions or field work as part of the requirement of this component.
The second component involves the school as a whole and generally happens outside of the classroom. This component involves working with students so that they understand and practise the ethos and mission of the school in the daily activities of the College. It includes activities such as school liturgies, Eucharistic celebrations, retreats and involvement in helping the marginalized .
This is where what students have learned about in the classroom is realized in practical ways. This is where they live out the Mission of the Church.
This section of the Terrace website focuses mainly on the classroom component. The Campus Ministry section of the Terrace website covers the additional activities which incorporate Mission and the Christian/Edmund Rice Ethos of the college.
