Music is an important part of the school life at Terrace and is seen as an essential element in developing ‘the whole man’. One out of every three boys in the College is involved with music.

Terrace Music is based in the Music Centre, a fully air conditioned complex consisting of two large rehearsal/teaching rooms, four teaching studios, two offices and an instrumental store room. band/orchestral rehearsal space with state of the art sound & video system. It is used sometimes for Music Elective Classroom lessons as well. All rehearsal spaces and studios have access to computers and each teaching studio contains a piano. There are three small air-conditioned studios in the Treacy Centre as well as a large Private Speech & Drama Room. All of these studios contain keyboards and portable CD players as well as guitar amplifiers.

In our new Campus at Waterford Place, we have three teaching studios as well as a stage area in the theatre to use for rehearsals, lessons and performances. All of our Year 10 students and some from Years 11 & 12 learn at Waterford Place. One studio has a piano and the other two have keyboards as well as a guitar and bass amplifier. There is a piano on the stage area of the theatre.

Over 450 boys are involved in the instrumental program at Terrace. Instruction is offered for all orchestral woodwind, brass and stringed instruments, as well as for saxophone, drums and percussion, piano, and classical, rock and bass guitars. The teaching staff are all specialists in their particular field and many are well known and respected figures in the musical world. Instrumental students are expected to participate in a performance group in order to develop their ensemble skills and so that they will experience the satisfaction and discipline of group music making. In so doing they are also able to make a significant contribution to the musical life of the school.

We couldn’t operate our concerts without  the Performing Arts Association committee’s assistance. They provide the afternoon tea and supper for concert goers and musicians alike. In addition, the PAA has provided many large expensive instruments which are used by our bands and orchestras.
