The exam is in TWO PARTS.

Each part will cover the units we have explored over this term.

PART A covers ‘Reality Bites’  = drawing

PART b covers ‘Layers and Facades  = photography

You will need to review these units for the exam. Refer to both your text “Art and Design” and the GREEN booklet on photography you have been supplied with.                                KNOW THESE THINGS:

·        Elements and principles of design  “Art and Text”  Chapter 2

·        How to recognise and discuss these design elements and principles when discussing artwork. “Art and Text”  Chapter 1. There are specific questions on the back of this page.

·        Drawing unit from “Art and Text”  Chapter 6

·        Categories of drawing and how to justify them in artworks

·        Photographic unit from “Art and Text”  Ch 5  particularly about composition pgs 146 -156

·        Photographic art – camera parts pg 159; developing film; printing and developing paper.

LOOK AT THE ART WORK IN YOUR TEXT BOOK and BOOKLET.

Be able to ANALYSE and INTERPRET works of art. 

ANALYSE =(how are the visual elements and principles used in the composition)INTERPRET = (what is the theme or idea behind the work/ the reason for making the work)

·  Base your discussion on what you can see in the plates supplied. Include in your discussion reference to: CONTENT – subject matter         * FORM – technique and the use of the
*ELEMENTS and PRINCIPLES of design.

·   Look for visual clues in the painting and make direct reference to the artwork when analysing.


1.             Considering what you can see in the drawing reproduced on PG 13 of your text “Art & Design”, what do you believe was Bennett’s  INTENTION in this work called “The Nine Ricochets”?

The aim / meaning of this work is …

 

2.            Continue to study the reproduced painting by Australian artist Gordon Bennet “The Nine Ricochets” on PG 13 of your text “Art & Design”. In no more than (2) TWO PARAGRAPHS of approximately 100 words, write down your INTERPRETATION of this work. JUSTIFY your explanation by referring directly to the drawing.

 

[INTERPRETATION = provide an explanation / translation of the meaning of the work. Answer the question – What is the work about?  Look for symbols and visual clues in the work.]

Comment on the figures, 4 distinct areas of the art, surface texture, images of black and white Australians, the axe, and background treatment and the relationship of these aspects to each other in the context of the unit REALITY BITES..

Write on your own paper.

3.            This question refers to the art work reproduced on Pg 18 of your text Art & Design” called  Victory Girls”1943 by Australian artist Albert Tucker.  ANALYSE the work and then make a written response of approximately 2 paragraphs

On the basis of what you can see in the image, ANALYSE by discussing at total of THREE (3) DOMINANT ELEMENTS or PRINCIPLES of art that are clearly evident  in the work.

HINTS FOR EXAM: Monday 27 August Day 6 – SCULPTURE & G DESIGN

You will need to review these units for PART 2, both in your text “Art and Design” and in the booklets you have been supplied with.

·        Elements and principles of design  “Art and Design” Chapter 2

·        How to recognise and discuss these design elements and principles when discussing artwork.

·        SCULPTURAL DESIGN from “Art and Design” Chapter 4 (pgs 122 –127)

·        Categories of sculpture and how to justify them in artworks. (green booklet)

·        Glossary on page 141 of  “Art and Design” 

·        GRAPHIC DESIGN– advertising pgs 104 - 106

The exam will take the form of a written 200 word interpretation of a sculptural work; word / explanation match and analysis of an advertisement.
