Roles | Team | Retreats | Service Ministries | Liturgies

A Senior class celebrates Tuesday morning mass in The Chapel of the Holy Family at St Joseph's College Gregory Terrace Interior of the Chapel of the Holy Family

Who: The School Community

When: Tuesday 7:55am

GOAL

To work to ensure that our Tuesday morning Eucharist becomes a real part of the life and culture of the College. The ideal would be that it would become the summit and source of all that we do. Work to make the whole school liturgies an experience that students look forward to and see as relevant.

  • To increase student participation to the maximum.
  • To make the liturgy as relevantto young men as possible.
  • To ensure the parents of the Terrace community feel welcome at this liturgy.
  • To invite staff participation in the liturgy.
  • To work to link the Tuesday liturgy will key events, experiences and people in the College community.

STRATEGIES

  • Develop a monthly roster of 4 Teams of singers and musicians;
    • Organ OR Guitar
    • Staff singer / s
    • Student singer / s
  • Develop four sets of songs that are printed on laminated cards to save wastage and they become known by the community. Musician groups will be encouraged to perform their own choice of song at Reflection time.
  • The readings and readers etc will be selected by the relevant RE class for that day.
  • We will have a follow up ‘reunion’ of Shalom / Galilee / Emmaus / Micah students + older peer ministers the Tuesday after the relevant retreat and the people concerned with gather around the altar at the end of mass to recite a prayer relevant to their retreat. [eg. Storms]
  • We will try to have ‘special’ Mass remembrances when we can. Would need to ask permission for same and judge whether it would be ‘good’ for the grieving process OR could do harm by re-opening a wound. Also could have a ‘Mass’ on a Tuesday for particular sports. Eg. Rowing. Have to really stress the ‘theology’ of doing same OR for Year 11’s and 12 at exam times.
  • Set up an Altar Serving Roster – set up a volunteer coordinator to oversee this. Invite someone to train the altar servers.
  • Recruit Year 11 Eucharist Ministers – train them up and officially appoint them.
  • Use a student band for music accompaniment at whole school liturgies as far as possible. Use the music staff and students for ‘special’ Masses such as the Old Boys, Graduation, TLG etc.
  • Ensure student participation in as much of the mass as possible; reflections, readings, the Eucharistic Prayer.

Increase the use of drama / art / movement in whole school liturgies.
