Jun 2002 Acceptable Use Policy for terraMOO

After a number of 'incidents' involving MOO users paying each other out, a Code of Behaviour was developed as a result of extended MOO discussion and has been posted in the MOO for all to see and comply with:

Acceptable use in this MOO is all about being free to learn without fear of harassment, prejudice and unwelcome interference.

YOU are responsible for your behaviour and your actions. By opting to use this MOO, you also accept the responsibility to behave acceptably.

You can demonstrate your continuing support of this environment by:

  • Respecting each other's right to use the space
  • Maintaining your own account in good order - changing your password regularly, keeping it secure, "G" rated Nick Name etc.
  • Keeping your language under control - don't type anything in a public area that you wouldn't want e-mailed home to your parents
  • Keeping destructive comments to yourself. If you have nothing constructive to say, say nothing.
  • Reporting (MOOmail to peterw along with a pasted excerpt) situations where you were made to feel uncomfortable.
  • Tidying up after you (putting things back where you found them)
  • Refraining from flooding, spamming or other actions that interfere with someone elses conversation thread.
  • Refraining from ejecting people from your space - this is a form of bullying that is not acceptable.
  • Refraining from spawning windows unless people in your room agree it is ok
  • It is better to be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and confirm it.

Irresponsible and inappropriate actions carry consequences

  • Harassment, Slander and Discrimination are UNLAWFUL. Documented cases will be dealt with by School Administration (and involve parental interview).
  • Minor issues (with witness) incur a warning - 2 warnings and your character gets demoted. A further incident and your demoted character gets deleted. Paper-based alternatives to activities will be provided in such cases so no educational disadvantage will be arguable. MOO eviction also incurs parental contact regarding the nature of the action.
  • Foul language gets reported to your House Dean who will deal with it like any incident involving bad language in a normal classroom.

MOO management is always interested in your opinion on improving conditions for all learners in this space. Equitable access and constructive comment is what a MOO is based on - we all have our part to play in its success.
