The MDA Work & Welcome Program

Work & Welcome

We pride ourselves with acting humbly and being able to ‘talk the talk and walk the walk’. Being able to proudly live out our values we espouse doesn’t happen automatically. It requires an ongoing commitment, reflection and generosity of heart. This week we welcomed Hassan Ali as new member of staff. Hassan joins us for Term 2 through the generous support of current staff members’ towards the Multicultural Development Association’s (MDA) Work & Welcome program.

We have several connections with MDA, who are a not-for-profit organisation that was established in 1998 to promote multiculturalism and empower people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds through advocacy and community development. It is through the Work & Welcome program, and the hosting of the Global Games at Tennyson and our participation in the annual Lantern Parade that we foster our connection with the MDA. Most importantly, it’s through these initiatives that we are able to ‘walk the talk’ – to live what we value.

The Work & Welcome program is a highly successful initiative, operated by MDA that provides direct assistance to refugees and new arrivals to find work in Australia through paid work opportunities. Donations are secured from corporations, organisations and individuals. These donations fund the placement of individuals in work experience placements for an average period of 12 weeks. Over the course of the past 18 months our staff had made ongoing contributions to this program.

Hassan has been warmly welcomed into our Terrace Family and we look forward to his valuable contribution to our community. On behalf of Hassan, thank you to the staff who have made Hassan’s placement possible. Hassan has expressed his sincere gratitude for this opportunity and is looking forward to being part of our community.

The MDA Work & Welcome offers multiple sponsorship opportunities. To find out more about the Work & Welcome program, more information is available here

The Good News of Terrace – Our Eddie’s Van Big Brekkie Program continues with the support of our Holiday Roster volunteers.

A big “thank you” on behalf of our Eddie’s Van patrons to our Old Boys, parents and friends who volunteer their time and friendship to ensure that our Big Brekky can operate during the school holiday period. Your generosity is warmly embraced each morning.
