This Sunday we celebrate Mother's Day, an important day to tell your mother how much you appreciate her.

This weekend we celebrate Mother’s Day. It is a fantastic opportunity to recognise and say thank you for all that our mothers do. This Sunday every single Terracian should be treating their mother to every possible luxury. A suggested guide would be: begin the morning with breakfast in bed, obviously. The breakfast should be accompanied by gifts, of course. If you are yet to make a purchase, this Saturday at Tennyson the Terrace Timor Network will be selling gifts. Treating your mother and helping Timorese communities, could there be a more perfect present? For the rest of the day make sure you are following her every command, without a disgruntled commentary. You are at her beck and call; her feet should not touch the floor. After all that is done, lastly, and most importantly, tell her how much you appreciate all that she does for you.

But when we celebrate our mothers this Sunday, do not sell them short. Do not reduce their contributions to the maternal field. Whilst you can thank them for driving you to footy, ironing your uniforms or helping you with homework, don’t thank them for only that. Do not forget the lives beyond your own that mothers lead. Mothers are not just cleaners, peacekeepers and tutors for your own personal use. Mothers are CEO’s, barristers, teachers, doctors, engineers. Mothers are researching cures to disease, campaigning for the protection of human rights, leading countries, and so much more. The point is, this Sunday do not simply thank your mothers for their maternal actions in your life, but also for their contributions to our wider society. Do not simply appreciate her value as a mother, appreciate her value as a woman.
