Track and Field

September has been a busy part of the season for the athletes. A good number of boys competed in the Spring Carnival series held at the University of Queensland. Among the many great results Oliver Seawright’s 8min 57sec 3km race is most worthy of a mention. Oliver, in running this time, has broken the old College record, which had been standing since 2004. Well done Oliver, what a fantastic achievement!

We also continued our training in the September holidays. Thirty boys completed three solid training sessions in Week One and our Track and Field Clinic in Week Two. Thank you to all the boys who attended, we are sure that your hard work will contribute to improved results throughout this term. During our clinic in the second week, the boys received nutritional advice and heard the story of Phillips Idowu (Beijing Olympic Silver Medalist and World Triple Jump Champion 2009). It was a privilege to have two such highly qualified people speak with us and we are sure that the advice that was given can help to optimise performances over the coming years.

With two weeks to go before the Junior GPS Championships and three before Senior GPS we are getting to the business end of the season. This Friday night we are taking part in the TSS Meet at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. I wish all the boys taking part in this meet luck and I look forward to seeing some great performances.
