TRACK AND FIELD

CITY Districts for CIC Athletes will be held at

Bowden Park, Maidencombe St Geebung 23rd and 24th July

Schedule of Events and

Competition Rules

Track & Field is difficult because of its simplicity- to run faster, throw further or jump higher/longer. There is very little equipment involved which just leaves the athlete and the crowd. It can be daunting and lonely whilst also feeling team support and the thrill of competition and success. This is one of the few truly global sports that we contest. Seventy events over the full five age groups is truly a test of a schools sporting prowess. So much so that 'GPS Track & Field' is a relatively new title. The carnival used to be known as the GPS sports and was held at the end of the year as a sign that it was the culmination of the GPS sporting calender.

Like its' close relation- Cross Country, Terrace Track & Field spent many years as the 'cellar dwellers'. In the 1950's this was certainly far from the case as the school won Premierships with boys perfoming amazing feats year after year. The new millenium has seen a great improvement in the status of the sport at this school. In 2003 the CIC team won the 'Green' division just holding off a strong TSS team in the final relays. The GPS team finished 2nd only to Ipswich Grammar School. This was the first time Terrace has placed in over forty years and it was in fact our best result for fifty years. The challenge of course now is to either stay there or to continue the improvement.

CONGRATULATIONS

Adam Bevis (2007 Senior) and Julian Wruck (2008 Senior) have qualified for the World Junior Athletics Championships. Both Athletes are the youngest in their Fields and are competing with the best the country has to offer.

Julian is at the tender age of 16 and last Friday competed in the Under 20 Discus event and placed 2nd overall. His throw was a World Junior Qualifier and only the 20 year old National Champion finished in front of him. Julian nows eagerly awaits to hear the call to whether or not he is selected.

Adam Competed in the Under 20 Decathlon and finished in first place and will now travel to represent his country in what is seen as the first stepping stone to the Commonwealth and Olympic Games!

Gregory Terrace can not wait to see Julian throw at GPS this year where the GPS Record is certainly looking shakey!
