CROSS COUNTRY REPORT 2008
The 2008 Cross Country season was certainly another year in which ‘The Long Red Line Continued…’

CIC REPORT
This year’s season has certainly been the most successful in quite a while with the rewards being seen in the team’s performances at both the Junior GPS and CIC Championships. Congratulations need to go to the team for their dedication to training; the parents for their support at a very busy time of year and of course our coaches. Thank you to Mr John Hawthorne and Mrs Kitty Hopton for their time and effort spent with the boys and their encouragement. These coaches have a very good balance between competition and participation which is essential for this young age group.
The representative season saw a number of Terrace runners selected in the City District Team: James Mullins, Patrick Cross, Campbell Carsley and Sam Cross. Sam Cross and James Mullins then were selected in the Metropolitan North team to race at the QLD State Championships.
On behalf of the team I congratulate the leaders Sam Cross (Captain) and Gerard Windsor (Vice Captain) as well as the Under 10’s who won their Age group in the 12 school competition.

GPS REPORT
This season was as successful as one could hope for, especially after a few years of falling short by a single point. Team depth has always been the secret to Terrace’s success. The improvements of many boys this season was very satisfying. Terrace has now been in the top 3 for a decade and winning our College’s 5 th GPS Premiership in the past 8 years is a product of a great team spirit of supporting each other, Open team leadership, persistence in training and student/staff/parent involvement. Each student in the team plays a vital role in ‘The Long Red Line’ story, regardless of their placing. Hopefully the boys have enjoyed themselves, met other friends, improved their fitness and confidence as well as learning some life skills on the way.

Thanks must go to the coaching staff of the program Mr John Hinch, Mr Damien Fall, Mr Chris Humphrys, Mr Grant Ciocarelli, Mr Damian Wright, Mr Jackson Darby, and Mr Stuart Bowden. We also acknowledge the important role and success of our CIC coaches Mr John Hawthorne and Mrs Kitty Hopton.
The TerRun group give constant support and financial assistance to our sport led by President Mr Mark Smith but also some very hard work is put in by a group of parents. This assistance is greatly appreciated.
Our Opens need to be congratulated on their win as well as they way they led and enthused the team, especially at our Lennox Head camp. The nominated leaders Patrick Schmidt (Captain), Sam Speechly and Liam Henneken (Vice Cpatains) also led the team by example and with distinction. All of these young men are great examples of runners that have overcome obstacles on the way to their success.
2008 will be remembered as the year the Jack Ross Trophy was returned to the Terrace. Hopefully a new era of young distance runners will now emerge. Just remember, the only thing harder than winning a premiership is to defend it.
2009…….The Long Red Line Continues.
