TEAM TERRACE TENNIS - 2008

The 2008 Team Terrace program for Years 5 – 7 will commence in Term 3. Team Terrace will play in the CIC competition – schedule for 7 rounds from July 26. Once again coaching of our CIC and Under 13 teams will be the priority of the College. These players will be offered the opportunity of 2 team afternoon sessions and 1 Sports Activity session per week beginning in Term 3. The GPS season begins on August 9 with age group instruction commencing at the start of Term 3. Again in 2008 those boys who donot make a CIC Tennis team will be given the option to join a Terrace team into the Super League competition held on Saturday afternoons. This allows those players to continue to advance their skills that they learn during activity sessions during the week. This was indeed one of the many successes of the 2007 season.

Despite a number of quality GPS tennis players choosing other sports in 2007, Terrace was still able to field the same number of teams that it had in the past. Along with the magnificent results in the CIC competition, it was pleasing to witness the enjoyment and improvement shown throughout the season. In terms of the overall results from all teams on a win/loss ratio, the results in the GPS competition placed Terrace in third place in the GPS competition behind BGS and BBC . This was another tremendous achievement.

Team Terrace has been devised to take advantage of the many fine features of Terrace Tennis. To continue with the momentum of 2007, a number of initiatives and coaching opportunities are to be offered. Along with these are the College Championships which are held for every age group. The dates for these are as follows:

  • Under 14, 15, 16 and 17 Age Championships – 4/5/08

  • Under 10, 11 and 12 Age Championships – 18/5/08

(FINALS HELD SUNDAY MAY 25)

  • Years 5 – 7 Middle School Championship – 18/5/08

    (FINALS HELD SUNDAY MAY 25)

  • Under 13 Age Championship – 25/5/08

  • Years 8 – 12 Open Championship – 27/7/08

(A $5.00 entry fee will be charged for each player to cover for the cost of a BBQ and Drinks that will be organized by members of the Tennis Supporters Group)

Following the GPS season, Mr Charlie Fancutt, Mr Broad and Mr Guy Fisher met to discuss the way forward for Terrace Tennis into the future. It is obvious that the gap between BGS and BBC to the other schools is quite considerable. While there is no doubt that these schools contain some quality players, it is obvious that these schools do have a substantial program that provides their players with every opportunity to develop to the highest level.

It is certainly the aim of the Terrace coaching staff to provide our players with a much more intensive and challenging program in order to give the players every opportunity to enhance their development. There is no doubt that Terrace does have some good players. It is clear though that the quality of training is not at a high enough level to bring those players, and those behind them to a level in which they feel comfortable and confident to approach matches against schools like BGS and BBC with a belief that they can compete with every chance of success.

Bring on the challenge and let's see what (and who) comes to the top !!!
