Gregory Terrace Volleyball Report
This year Terrace Volleyball continued its surge as the quickest growing sport at Terrace in terms of participation rates. This interest has added to the depth of talent of players and allowed every student who wanted to play Volleyball the opportunity to do that. In addition to the extra players, more coaches have come on board to support the Volleyball program at the College. For all of those who are new to the sport this year I extend a welcome and hope that you continue to be a part of Terrace Volleyball for years to come. Success in 2006 can be measured by the enjoyment of players; the improvement of individual skill, camaraderie developed in teams and the number of games won. This season has been very successful.
The preseason for many of our senior players began in October of last year. The higher standard of skills of our players can be attributed to training over the Christmas holidays and in the preseason skill clinics. The 1 st VI squad competed at the Queensland School’s Cup for the first time and placed fifth in the State. This was a remarkable achievement for a team with limited preparation.
To the teaching staff of Mr Luke Gribble, Mr Russel Muir, Ms Kirstin Allingham, Mr Tim Stephens and Mr Michael Connolly who give very generously of their time I express my sincere gratitude for their dedication. I would also like to thank Mr Scott Tweedie, Mr Joss Douglas, Mr David Mandall and Mr Simon Ashley who have also coached our players. Mr Martin Rogalski has been thorough and dedicated in his preparation of the 1 st VI. The results for this team reflect some of the effort he has put in. Our Coaching staff was led by Ms Sarah Maxwell who will continue her Volleyball career next year in a bid to compete at the Bejing Olympics. For all of her work in rasing the level of Terrace Volleyball I say thank you and best wishes.
To all the parents of the players I thank you for your support of your sons and the Volleyball program at Terrace. Without you, your sons would not be able to enjoy Volleyball and the many benefits this sport provides. Thanks must also go to the parents of our 1 st VI team for their assistance in catering for post-match functions for visiting teams that we host.
I would like to express my gratitude to Mr Michael Broad (Director of Sport), and the rest of College Leadership Team for their support throughout the season. Finally I would like to recognise the tireless efforts of Mr Andrew Ebrington who set up the Campbell Centre and St James for each home match and maintains all of our equipment to the highest level.
The future of Terrace Volleyball looks strong as our players gain experience. In the off season a number of our players will play club volleyball, compete at the Queensland School’s Cup and Beach Volleyball competitions. A number of our players have been selected in representative teams which will also add valuable experience. I look forward to our next season with Terrace Volleyball rising as a formidable force within the GPS competition.

2005 Report
Gregory Terrace Volleyball Report
Terrace fielded five teams this season with approximately 65 boys representing Terrace in Volleyball. As a sport Volleyball is growing at Terrace. Next year the College is hopeful of fielding an additional team or two. Volleyball is a unique sport because it is one of the few sports unaffected by the weather and is extremely exciting to watch. The GPS Volleyball season for Terrace ended on a very high note with the Firsts VI recording one of the biggest upset victories of the GPS season by defeating IGS.
The season began for many of our players early in term four 2004 when 48 students turned up to pre-season skills sessions to improve their individual skills. What is very pleasing is the tangible improvement that each player has made over the season. This could not have been achieved without the dedication and professionalism shown by the coaching staff that the School provides. It is worth noting that we are one of few schools where the coaching staff is derived mostly of teachers. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the coaches who are committed to developing each player as an individual, and helping the teams to gel into a unified outfit. Without their efforts the Volleyball programme would not be as successful as it is. To Mr Luke Gribble, Mr Russel Muir, Mr Tim Stephens and Mr Michael Connolly I express my gratitude for your commitment and effort in coaching this season. I would also like to thank Mr Simon Ashley who is one of our outside coaches who also coached the Open 2nd VI. Our Coaching staff was led by Ms Sarah Maxwell who has not only coached the 1 st VI but also assisted by coaching each team at least once a week. Her efforts to promote a sport that she is passionate about, has helped change the culture of this sport at Terrace.
Thanks must also go to the parents of our 1 st VI team for their assistance in catering for post-match functions for visiting teams that we host. To all the parents of the players I thank you for your support of your sons and the Volleyball program at Terrace for without you, your sons would not be able to enjoy volleyball and the many other benefits the sport provides.
Throughout the season I have certainly appreciated the on-going support and professionalism of Mr Michael Broad (Director of Sport). I would also like to recognise the support of College Principal, Mr Peter Chapman and the rest of College Leadership Team throughout the season by attending every match that has been played. This support sends a strong message to all of our players that they are recognised, valued and supported by the College. Finally I would like to recognise the tireless efforts of Mr Andrew Ebrington who sets up the Campbell Centre, First Aid Area and scoring controls, and maintains all of our equipment to the highest level.
Already the foundation has been laid for an excellent season for 2006. Eight members of the first squad will be back next year. The experience gained in 2005 will assist the team greatly. The positive increase in the number of teams will add to the depth of talent playing Volleyball. For the first time, many of our students will take part in the Schools’ Cup in the Under 15 and Open competitions later in the year which will provide valuable experience for every player involved at a very competitive level.
The college looks forward with great anticipation to the growth of this sport over the coming years.
