Terrace Museum and Archives
Opened in March 2011 and situated in the newly-refurbished and heritage-listed Treacy Centre, where the Christian Brothers lived and taught for more than 130 years, the Terrace Museum and Archives promote the history of the College and showcases the remarkable story and traditions of Terrace.
It stands in testament to the dedication of the Christian Brothers, teachers and students who have passed through its gates for the past 136 years and serves an important function in preserving historical knowledge and passing it on to the Terrace Family, especially the present generations of Terrace Gentlemen.
There are many wonderful stories that have come from Terrace. Some of them are very moving - such as the sacrifice of young lives in the service of our country. Some of them are of bravery and enterprise - such as the saving of lives and pioneering work in the area of medicine. There are stories of sporting achievements, distinguished professional careers and academic prowess. There are also stories of ordinary lives lived - each with it’s own purpose. These are all important, valuable stories and lessons for the students at the college.
The Museum displays will change throughout the year for important events such as Anzac Day and other significant dates on the college calendar. This will not only keep the museum interesting for the students but will help it to remain relevant within the educational curriculum.
Currently the display highlights a selection of the Gentlemen of Terrace and their achievements. Due to wonderful donations made, the museum houses a remarkable and varied collection of memorabilia including a 73-year-old rugby jersey, 128-year-old books, an OBE and the very first school registry from 1875.
The College Archives, also a part of the Museum, serve to catalogue and organize documents and objects not on display in the Museum. The Archives are currently going through a major review and re-organisation. Items are being re-housed in the correct archival storage facilities. It is the intent to have the archive collection contained in a searchable database with easy access to all who may wish to research items in the collection.
We foresee that much more historical information also will be made available online, by way of this website, in the future. For now you can learn more about Terrace’s history, people and features of significance by visiting the following pages:
The Terrace Museum provides a place for Old Boys and family members to visit and reminisce and hopefully donate their treasured items for the future generations of Terrace Gentlemen. If you have any enquiries or items you wish to donate to the Terrace Museum please contact:
