About Terrace

St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace (Terrace) is a Catholic Day School for young men from Years 5 to 12, founded by the Christian Brothers, in 1875. Terrace is one of the nine Great Public Schools (GPS) Colleges in Queensland and is among the oldest.

Our College has a long and rich history that spans more than 136 years in the tradition of the Christian Brothers and their founder, Blessed Edmund Rice. Today the College is governed by Edmund Rice Education Australia. Since its establishment, the College has pursued its mission to develop young men of “faith and learning”.

A Terrace education strives to be well-rounded, balanced and holistic; one that strongly encourages participation, develops mate ship and aspires to excellence in all areas of endeavour – especially in its central educational function, in delivering excellent tutelage and cultivating a commitment to learning A Terrace education is built on a strong partnership between students, parents and the College.

Central to our tradition is the overall development and well-being of every man who walks through our gates. The Gentlemen of Terrace are nurtured and guided by experienced staff and teachers with a genuine empathy and concern for each student's academic, spiritual, sporting, cultural and personal development.

Our priorities are:

Our students receive a high quality education in an environment that challenges and supports them. Students are provided with added support through a vertical pastoral care system, ensuring continuity of contact. Our students are encouraged to put their faith into action.

At the conclusion of a Terracian’s journey through school, we hope that our men leave as educated, well-rounded, caring and socially aware citizens, with strong values, integrity, personal worth and identity.

Our community benefits from friendships that extend beyond the College walls to everyone that has been a part of Terrace – the Terrace Family. The sense of belonging – through community, solidarity and friendship - that develops both at Terrace, and which lives on, particularly through a vibrant Old Boys network, is one of Terrace’s most important legacies and achievements. We have an extensive parent support network and also offer a range of online web services to our community.

Terrace is recognised as a leader among Australian educational institutions and in the tradition of Edmund Rice, acknowledges the role its standards and example can play in the wider community. Terrace continues to build on the achievements of those who went before, through the ingenuity and generosity of the Terrace Family and the hard work of our generous support groups, especially the Gregory Terrace Foundation.

St. Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace is governed by a College Board, is presently lead by College Principal Mr Peter Chapman and is guided by its central Mission Statement.
