Celebrating Term 3 Cultural Achievements: A Triumph in Debating, Music, Theatresports, Public Speaking and Chess
Term 3 at Terrace has been nothing short of spectacular in terms of cultural achievements. The dedication, talent, and hard work of our students have shone through, resulting in an impressive array of accolades across various disciplines. From debating to music, theatresports to public speaking, and even chess, our students have demonstrated exceptional skill and determination. Following are the remarkable achievements that have defined this term.
Debating Triumph at Queensland Debating Union State Championships
The Terrace Debating teams have once again showcased their exceptional prowess, clinching victories at the Queensland Debating Union State Championships across three categories: Senior A, 12.1, and 9.1. This achievement is a testament to the rigorous training and eloquence of our debaters. Furthermore, Kieran Mills was honoured with the title of best speaker, highlighting the individual brilliance that contributed to our team's success. To cap off this remarkable feat, Terrace also secured the prestigious aggregate award, underscoring our dominance in the debating arena.
Outstanding Music Ensemble Performance
In music, we continued to excel, receiving a staggering 18 Gold, 7 Silver, and 7 Bronze awards at the Queensland Catholic Schools Music Festival, where we entered the second most ensembles of all Catholic Schools. Notably, the Bass Drum section of the Red Thunder Drumline received special recognition for excellence, highlighting the exceptional quality of their performance. The Red Thunder Drumline again competed on the National stage, placing third in the Australian Drumline Competition and winning the best Tenor section award. Further adding to our musical triumphs, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Concert Band 2 took on the challenge of Music Fest, which saw them compete outside of the Catholic realm and emerge with impressive results. Both ensembles earned recognition, achieving a Silver and Bronze, respectively, which reflects the high standards of musical excellence maintained by our students.
Theatresports Excellence: 2nd Place in State Final
In Theatresports, the Senior 2 team proved their mettle by securing a commendable 2nd place in the State Final. This achievement is a testament to the quick wit, creativity, and teamwork displayed by our Theatresports enthusiasts.
UN EVATT Public Speaking Competition: A Strong Semifinal Presence
As of the time of writing, our Public Speaking program boasts three public speaking teams in the Semifinals of the UN EVATT Public Speaking Competition. We wish these students well in the further competitions.
Chess Excellence: Surpassing Individual Expectations
In chess, our Premier Board finished equal 8th in the competitive GPS competition. I commend our young players, who consistently faced opponents with significantly higher ratings. This is a true testament to their skill and determination in chess.
Our Term 3 achievements not only reflect the hard work and perseverance of our students, but also the guidance and support provided by our dedicated educators. As we celebrate these triumphs, we look forward to even greater accomplishments in the future. Congratulations to all involved.
