The Heart of the Terrace Family - Volunteers Needed | Mrs Anna Wright

On Friday 6 October (Week 1 of Term 4) the Terrace Houses go head-to-head in the annual Inter-House Athletics Carnival at Tennyson.

It is an opportunity for our Track and Field athletes who usually compete on a Friday night to show us their incredible talent and fitness. Together, the Terrace Family will gather under the jacarandas to compete in events both fun and competitive to determine which House reigns supreme.

Some of us get a chance to go to Tennyson during the year, but we rarely see it when it is just the Terrace crowd, so the Athletics Carnival is a special opportunity that allows available parents and caregivers to contribute to the atmosphere. Our contribution in the Tuckshop, on the BBQ, by providing home-baked goods, or a contribution towards teacher lunches for the day makes the day special for everyone.

A Volunteer Sign Up email will be sent soon and will outline how and when you can help. You will also get a menu when it is finalised – I hear Monica and Anthony Katsanevas are firing up the BBQ for their famous chicken or haloumi yiros...not to be missed!

If you haven’t helped at Tennyson before, it’s easy (running your own home is much harder and much less social), just come along, introduce yourself to Kirsten Carroll (our Canteen Contessa), and before you know it, you will hear those beautiful manners as the boys buy their lunch or a post-race pick me up. You can always pop out and watch some events throughout the day as well.

Please help out if you can. Many hands make light work.

Until I see you at the Athletics Carnival, I send us all strength to get through exam block and make it to the holidays.

                        Mrs Anna Wright

In the spirit of reconciliation, we, as members of the Terrace Family, acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of our Nation. We acknowledge, respect and give gratitude to the Traditional Owners of the Countries on which our campuses are located. We pay our respects to Ancestors, Elders, and leaders of the future as well as to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of our Terrace Family. We value the knowledge of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and recognise and honour their stories, cultures, and achievements as we walk together for mutual liberation and a truth-telling history for all Australians. Inspired by the Edmund Rice Education Touchstones, we are called to be people of knowledge, humility and wisdom who walk in solidarity with the First Peoples of our Nation for reconciliation, justice, equity and healing.
