Principal's Message Term 3 Week 9 | Dr Michael Carroll

Dear members of the Terrace Family,

As we approach the final week of Term 3, the entire school, except for Year 9, are now in exam block, with the exams continuing until Thursday 14 September, the last day of term.

As I have written previously, good preparation for exams includes planned revision for each subject, organisation of the correct equipment and being well-rested each day. Exam time can be stressful, so it is important to ensure that your sons are getting adequate sleep, eating well and getting some time to relax between study and exams. I wish all students the best with their exams and hope their efforts during the term are rewarded with good results.

Our Year 9 students are currently engaged in their Immersion programs. Reports from Central Australia, Northern Australia and Far North Queensland have been positive, whilst our locally based Immersions are also going very well. The immersion experience is a unique one for our students and forms a critical part of the Waterford experience. The immersions would not be possible without the generous support of our staff who travel with the students, and I thank all those currently supporting our Year 9 students in a range of locations.

This weekend sees the conclusion of the Term 3 GPS season, with Terrace playing Churchie at East Brisbane. Churchie has traditionally strong programs in both rugby and basketball, so our players will need to be alert and ready to play, even during their exam blocks. Almost 1300 boys have represented Terrace each weekend in our basketball and rugby programs, which are recognised as having among the largest participation numbers in the GPS competition. Terrace has enjoyed successful seasons in both sports, and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the coaches and staff who have been involved throughout the season. It would be great to see a strong representation of supporters at Churchie this Saturday cheering on the Red and Black.

Finally, this week, as Term 3 rapidly draws to a conclusion, I remind parents that the term finishes next Thursday 14 September with a Thanksgiving Liturgy commencing at 2.00pm. Students will be dismissed at the normal time of 3.10pm.

                        Have a great week.

                        God Bless.

                        Dr Michael Carroll
                        College Principal

In the spirit of reconciliation, we, as members of the Terrace Family, acknowledge the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of our Nation. We acknowledge, respect and give gratitude to the Traditional Owners of the Countries on which our campuses are located. We pay our respects to Ancestors, Elders, and leaders of the future as well as to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of our Terrace Family. We value the knowledge of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and recognise and honour their stories, cultures, and achievements as we walk together for mutual liberation and a truth-telling history for all Australians. Inspired by the Edmund Rice Education Touchstones, we are called to be people of knowledge, humility and wisdom who walk in solidarity with the First Peoples of our Nation for reconciliation, justice, equity and healing.
