Principal’s Message Term 4 Week 8 | Dr Michael Carroll
Dear members of the Terrace Family
It is hard to believe that we are at the end of the 2022 school year. While the year has been punctuated with some interruptions, it has been the most normal school year since 2020.
As I reflect on the year that was, it is clear that a lot has happened at Terrace in 2022. At the beginning of the year, lockdown was quickly followed by the devastating February floods, and we were left wondering what could come next.
However, as the year progressed, a greater sense of normality returned, and students, staff, parents and caregivers settled into the routine life of Terrace – retreats, exams, co-curricular activities, Tennyson working bees and the usual range of Terrace social events.
The Terrace community also suffered losses during the year. We remember in our prayers the parents, relatives and members of the extended Terrace Family who are no longer with us. Included in this group is Br Tony White, former College Principal.
Although not yet fully refurbished, Tennyson opened partially for Term 3 activities and will be fully repaired and operational for the 2023 seasons.
Term 4 has again run frantically, with GT on the Green, our highly successful Giving Day, the Year 12 ATAR exams, the Celebration of Excellence and the Year 12 Valedictory celebrations being just some of the highlights. I take this opportunity to thank the Terrace Family for all you have done throughout the year to make it a positive one for the College. 2022 was a year of renewed optimism, and I am sure that we are all looking forward to an even better year in 2023.
As we prepare to take a well-earned Christmas holiday break, it is timely to acknowledge the families and staff members who will leave Terrace at the end of this year for new and exciting challenges. There were 168 Year 12 families who finished last week, and a small number of students and families will finish at Terrace tomorrow. I certainly wish these families all the very best. Similarly, some staff are finishing at Terrace this year to pursue further professional opportunities.
These staff include:
Mr Charles Brauer
Ms Taylor Broughton
Ms Bridget Clarke
Mrs Suzanne Cook
Mr Craig Dabelstein
Ms Melissa Deacon
Mr Alan Herbst
Mr Hayden Hirsimaki
Ms Jamie Newnham
Mr Peter Whitehouse
I thank these staff members for their valuable contribution to Terrace and wish them all the best in their professional journey.
Although we finish classes tomorrow, many sporting and cultural tours, clinics and camps are being conducted over the holiday break. I thank all those involved in the planning and supervising these activities and wish them every success. It is very pleasing to see more tours and camps happening at the College again.
The staff will complete marking and reports next week, and these will be made available via the Parent Lounge on Tuesday 6 December. The Year 12 ATAR results will be published on 16 December, and I will write to families with an update at that time. I will also write to all 2023 families in the New Year with an update and further information regarding the start of the 2023 school year.
Finally, I thank all families for their support throughout 2022 and wish everyone a relaxing, safe and Holy Christmas and New Year. The coming weeks provide an opportunity to rest, recharge and spend quality time with family and friends while reflecting on the Holy Season and the birth of Jesus.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
