Timor Week Wrap Up | Mr Zach Woodward
At this week’s Assembly we reflected on our College’s special relationship with communities in Timor Leste. We look forward to continuing to grow this relationship when a group of Year 9 students travel there later this year as part of their Immersion. Last Saturday, 20 May, marked 21 years since 'Restoration of Independence Day', the day in 2002 when Timor became a nation again. The story of Timor is a long one, filled with war, trauma and suffering, but it is also a story of the hope and friendship that has grown and strengthened as we continue to support each other.
Terrace Timor Network Mother’s Day Stall Well done to Mr Ben Russell & the Buckley House students for running this year’s TTN Mother’s Day stall. Between the two campuses, the stall managed to raise over $3,100 for our friends in Timor Leste. A fantastic effort!
Timor Round, Saturday 13 May In Round 4 of the GPS competition we celebrated Timor Round at all football & tennis venues. Our First XI Football and First IV Tennis teams wore a special Timor jersey/playing shirt for their matches and players from Terrace and Ipswich Grammar were also presented with Timor bro bands after their matches.
A special tradition in the Timor Round each year is the presentation of the Brother Dan Courtney Medal to the Player of the Match in the 9A football team. Brother Dan is an Old Boy of the College and a founding member of the Christian Brothers' Community in Timor. A big congratulations to Kobin Magesan for taking home the medal as Player of the Match in the 9A game.
