Chess – The Last Move

Well done to our Chess players for last Friday night and the entire season of Chess. Our Junior players showed the depth and strength as Year 7 student Lachie Wood, on Board 4, took out his more senior competition, who also holds a higher Queensland Junior Chess Ranking.

Overall, the team finished in equal third position on the GPS ladder. We look forward to an even more competitive year as we keep the same team on our Premier Board in 2018.

All British Day Needs Volunteers

If you have a love for all cars British, you should make your way to Tennyson on Sunday 17 September for the All British Day. This is not only a great day in the outdoors looking at some beautifully restored cars, it is also a chance for our Terrace Family to volunteer some time in the BBQ pit and canteen. This day is a fundraising opportunity for our Music students for the 2019 Singapore tour.

If you have some time to give or some home bake you would like to provide, please go to the following link and fill in your details: https://www.volunteersignup.org/LLJTT .

We would expect families from the Premier and Second Ensembles to be involved with volunteering for this day. Students are also expected to help parents as they ultimately gain from this fundraising event.

Old Boy Passion

Thank you to Norman Clarke, GT 1954, who generously gave financial assistance to our growing Years 5 and 6 program this week. With Norman’s assistance, we could buy several expensive and essential instruments for our students in the Years 5 and 6 Band to play. We can now slowly grow in a more balanced program for our concert bands in the senior school, which will make us even more competitive.

While recently on campus, Year 12 student Harry David presented Norman with a favourite photo from a recent College event, Jazz Night 2016.

Jailhouse Jazz Date Claimer

With final touches being confirmed on the 2017 Jazz Night ‘Jailhouse Jazz’, we ask you to set aside Friday 20 October to lock yourself in Boggo Road Gaol for a night of great entertainment. Gates will open at 6.30pm and the guards don’t go off duty until the end of the concert...so you will be locked up for the entire concert!

Adult Tickets will be $40 including a drink on arrival and Boggo Road Gaol tour experience. Pre dinner drinks and gate opening from 6.30pm with the show featuring all three of our Terrace Big Bands and our staff band who will play alongside our student stars and special guests who are ‘putting the band back together…’

Tickets on sale via College Events shortly.

Support Group Meeting Notes

If you would like to stay up to date with where and how the Support Groups are assisting their relevant activities, notes from our meetings can be found either under Debating or Music in the College App.

The Debating Support Group held their AGM during the week. On behalf of the College, I would like to thank Mrs Anne Pickering for her services as Treasurer over the past two years. Mr Peter Hackett has now assumed this role and I look forward to the enthusiasm he will bring to the role.

The Terrace Performing Arts group will have their AGM on 7 November at 5.30pm. If you wish to nominate for a position, please contact: TPAPresident@terrace.qld.edu.au .
