Principal's Message | Acting Principal, Mr Chris Ryan

A warm welcome back for the final term for the year. I particularly acknowledge our Year 12 gentlemen who are commencing the final leg of their schooling journey. I encourage them to strive to be the best that they can be right through until their final moments in the red and black and to embrace and enjoy this phase of hard work, friendship and transition.

We also welcome back to the College our Year 10 fellows from their Immersion experiences. In the Gospel, we learn that Jesus put his Disciples “out into the deep to be fishers of people”. The Immersion experience is designed to be an out into the deep journey where the other is encountered. This week, I have discussed the framework of WHAT, SO WHAT, WHAT NOW? With the Year 10 group. How can they apply their learnings now in the every day and the ordinary as Terracians? We look forward to benefitting from their growth.

This week we welcome back to the College after some leave, Mr Geoff Ludlow, Mrs Loren Serafin-Huey, Mrs Kathy Wilson, Mrs Cath Griffin, Mrs Jan Cameron and Mrs Tracey McIvor.

We look forward to welcoming the Year 7 class of 2018 at their Orientation Evening tonight. This evening also continues the leadership journey of our Year 11 students as they prepare to be the Seniors of 2018. Thank you in anticipation for the fine job they will do as buddies. On Friday, we will conclude the first week of the term with the final Inter-House event for the year with our annual Athletics Carnival to be held at Tennyson. Parents are most welcome to visit!

Term 3 reports will be available in Parent Lounge during the afternoon on Friday of this week. As always, we encourage parents to sit with their son and discuss this feedback. It is important to celebrate achievements both big and small and to reflect on growth opportunities together and develop plans. I know as a parent myself I can be guilty of not being as fresh in Term 4 as I am in Term 1. It is vital that we continue to work together in supporting the boys in their habits and routines. As always, please feel welcome to be in contact with your son’s teachers and key staff.

Unfortunately, the Terrace Family Night scheduled for this Friday evening will not proceed. However, the student artwork will be displayed in College Hall. We welcome parents to visit College Hall during the week at drop off or pick up or during the day to share in the creativity of the boys. There are always some special surprises. Thank you to the Art Department for their coordination of this. Thank you to the Cardinals Support Group for their facilitation of the College Art Union and to Hyundai for their wonderful support of the College. Funds raised are distributed according to need across the College for special projects. Thank you to all of our sponsors and donors and the extended community for your support. The Art Union will be drawn this Friday and lucky winners contacted.

Dr Carroll has greatly enjoyed his study and travel in Europe and has now returned to Australia. We look forward to his return in Week 3 of this term.

With best wishes

Mr Chris Ryan
