Director of Sport | Mr Damian Wright

Planning and preparation for Season 2018 is well underway. Below are two significant changes that will occur in our largest participation programs – Football and Rugby.

FOOTBALL 2018

Following a review of the 2017 Football season the College has entered into a partnership with Brisbane City Football Club.

Structurally the program will encompass three distinct areas of development. The “First Development Squad will target those boys from Year 10, Year 11 and Open who are earmarked for 1st Football representation.

The second grouping of boys is the Performance Program targeting young men in Years 7, 8 and 9 who make up the top 25 of each year level – with the goal of one day progressing into the 1st XI.

The third group is targeted at those young men who are happy to simply participate with their mates and enjoy the game. This “Participation Program” covers the Years 7 to Opens teams in divisions C to F. Alongside the Participation Program is the Years 5 and 6 program, specifically aimed at skill development in our younger members of the school.

Terrace will welcome a new 1st XI coach and Head of the 1st XI Development Squad in Mr John Kosmina. John is a well known coach and personality in Football. A former A league coach and outstanding player in his own right, John will bring a fresh new direction to Football at Terrace.

An email has been sent to Terrace Football families, further outlining John’s Football predigree. John will be joined by Mr Mitchell Edwards from Brisbane City who will work closely with the Performance Program and develop a common coaching course, football language and style of play throughout the entire program.

Mr Brian Hastings will guide the Years 5 and 6 program and the Participation program.

Invitation

The Football Support Group will have an information evening this coming Monday 13 November at 6pm in the Waterford Lecture Theatre. Both John and Mitchell will be in attendance. All Football families are welcome to attend.

RUGBY 2018

There will be a change in the 1st XV coaching ranks in 2018. Mr Tom Barker will take the reins and ownership of the flagship team of the Rugby program. Tom is a very experienced coach who has in recent years directed the A/B program in younger age levels. Having tasted success in 1st XV previously at two other schools, Tom will bring enthusiasm and a new set of eyes to the Rugby program.

It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the outstanding roles Mr Ben McCormack and Mr Tony Wall have completed over many years in Terrace Rugby. Thank you to both gentleman for their leadership, guidance and cool heads. The College wishes both of them best wishes for their future coaching endeavours and will always welcome them back in the future.

WATERPOLO REPRESENTATIVES

I would like to extend congratulations to Lachlan Steains (Year 10) and Dominic Thompson (Year 11), for their selections on the Metropolitan North Under 17 Waterpolo team. Samuel Smeaton (Year 11) has been listed as a reserve for the team also. We wish them well while they prepare for the Queensland Schools State Waterpolo Championships being held on the Sunshine Coast in March 2018.
