The Weekly Wrap

Football Wrap

What a way to finish the season with an eight goal thriller!  Luckily we scored four of them. It would have been better to win than share the points, but the result was reflective of our season…moments of brilliant Football interspersed with some of not so brilliant moments.

Once again Byron McLeod was front and centre with his fourth hat trick of the season – a great effort for the 10 competitive matches we played. It was a day for celebrating the Year 12 players who will be leaving at the end of the year. As usual we were a little slow out of the blocks and had to scramble to recover from our own mistakes, but still managed to play good Football in possession and created some very good chances. It was no surprise that we were leading 2 nil at half-time. After the break it was end to end action and the goals flowed for both teams. All in all I think everyone was happy at the end. It was certainly great entertainment.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have been involved in the Football program this season. It has been a wonderful experience for me, but the final word has to be for the players. Thank you for your efforts, you proved you can play and were only really bested in one game. To the Year 12s, make the most of your opportunities. You are out in the real world next year so grab them with both hands…they don’t come around all that often. To the players back next year, let’s look forward to making the most of it and aim to better this season.

Tennis Wrap

The Terrace Tennis season of 2018 was completed on Saturday with an excellent day of tennis against Toowoomba Grammar School. The program, for the sixth time this year, had a winning day against the opposition. The sportsmanship on display by both schools is a credit to all involved.

The Tennis program is able to cater for all abilities, and the product of 2018 was definitely an improvement from the years before and we hope to continue this improvement in 2019. The aim is to continue to provide opportunities for those who either wish to play socially with their mates like this year’s fourths and fifths teams in a participation program, or to cater for those striving to be the best they can in the performance side of the program. Tennis is a game for all and a game for life.

Our traditional tennis end of season break-up BBQ and trophy presentation at AMBI was held at the completion of the round on Saturday afternoon. The program would like to take this opportunity to thank a few groups who have been integral in the success of the season. Firstly, the Terrace Tennis Support Group who volunteer their time, and work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the program is well supported and continues to run in the right direction. The passion that this group shows for the game of tennis and the wellbeing of Terrace Tennis can’t be understated and we thank them for this. Secondly, the program would like to acknowledge and thank Ms Cerene Hughes who has been fantastic in helping the program behind the scenes. To Dr Carroll and the CLT and Mr Damian Wright, we thank you for your continued support of Tennis at the College and the countless hours you all contribute to the College.

The program would also like to thank the students who represented the College in the Tennis program. The efforts this year, commitment to both training and match play was described by those who know, as a significant improvement from years past.

A big thank you to all the College coaches, led by Head Coach Mr Graeme Brimblecombe, who have been responsible for the smooth running of matches and general game day operations. Their knowledge of the game is equal to their enthusiasm in ensuring that each boy becomes the best tennis player that they can be, creating a great training environment at each individual session.

Finally, we would like to acknowledge the parent group for their continued support of the program and their assistance of the boys during the season. Be it early morning starts at Victoria Park Courts or away games at Toowoomba, the support of your sons and flexibility with scheduling during the year has ensured that the boys can get the most out of the program.

We hope your son has had a positive experience with playing tennis at the College and look forward to seeing him involved again in 2019.

Around the Courts

This week our 3rds, 4ths and 5ths played their final game for the red and black out at Ambiwerra against Toowoomba. Braving a cold morning, the boys had a slow start but improved in the second doubles, showing all the skills they had learned throughout the season.

The 3rds won a hard-fought victory, capping off a great year with yet another win and while the 4ths couldn’t quite get across the line they soaked up all the fun in their final games for Terrace.

Several Year 5 teams played out internal matches and matches against very strong Lifetime opposition. The games were closer than they looked and the day out at AMBI was a great learning experience for the new members of our Tennis community. A positive finish to the season for all teams, the boys already looking forward to returning next season.

At Coops the 10Cs, 10Ds, 9s, and 7Es played against Toowoomba Grammar School in what was overall a positive way to end the season. Our Terrace athletes continued to display great sportsmanship and were very eager to get on and compete in their matches. A big shout out to the all the boys for working with the coaches given the days’ time constraints.

The 7Es demonstrated great team spirit and on court intensity. The boys had a great win against Toowoomba’s 9Ds, making them undefeated for the season.

1st IV Report v Toowoomba Grammar School

This year our final round of the season would be played against Toowoomba Grammar School.

On paper, this is a match we should win but with injuries and new younger players called into the team, the team of Bryce Robinson, Xavier Lim,Yosua Lumbanradja and Tom Brannigan all knew we had to be at our best and were desperate to finish the season on a high note.

The day once again started with all four singles matches. Tom was first finished with a 6-1, 6-1 result while Bryce and Xavier followed soon after with 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-4 wins. Yosua had to battle through his fist set winning it 6-4 before rolling through his second set 6-1.

Our doubles then followed and our boys were once again very strong, winning all four matches and only dropping one set. The final result of the day was GT 8-16-100 def TGS 0-1-42.

Congratulations to our 1st IV team members finishing third place this year. All boys involved should be proud of their efforts.
