Director of Sport | Mr Damian Wright

Congratulations to both the Rugby and Basketball programs on their performance last weekend against IGS. The Terrace boys were victorious in the full round of fixtures against their scheduled opponents.

Basketball

Terrace won the day with 15 Victories, one draw and eight defeats.

For the hard-working men of this program it was another good weekend, with great skills on display. Mr Sam Mackinnon, our Basketball Coordinator, is more than pleased with the development of the boys and their application. So far this year, the Basketball program has won all days overall except for one round – that is a great effort and all the boys from Year 5 through to the Opens need to be congratulated.

For the 1st V Basketball Team, it was an opportunity to play the front-runners IGS and compete against the likely eventual premiers for 2018. The scoreboard went to IGS in the end, but the Terrace team should be proud of their efforts in this game and for the season so far.

This weekend they will travel to TGS and there is a great expectation that the boys will finish off strongly and record their third victory for the year. They certainly have the talent and desire.

Rugby

It was a quiet day at Tennyson with fixtures starting off at 10am and Terrace playing host to not only IGS, their scheduled opponent,s but also Nudgee, BBC and TGS. For the record, the Terrace Rugby boys won the day seven games to six. The 1st XV had a fantastic victory to win after the bell with the final play – a conversion of a wide try, where the ball hit the cross bar before going over. That kick, the second conversion from out wide, gave victory to the boys by two points.

It was great to see the supporters rise to cheer the team from the field. It was especially pleasing to see the joy that it brought to two special guests on the day, Conor Tweedy and Ollie Harrison.

Ollie had the honour of leading the team out onto the field. Ollie has been a fixture at Terrace for many years supporting his brothers as they have gone through the College and it may be the last time he is at Tennyson, although he tells me he will be there every weekend next year. For Conor, it was a great way to welcome him back to Tennyson and have a day out with his mates. I think all who witnessed his presence and his engagement with the boys would have been uplifted by his spirit and determination.

This weekend we travel to Toowoomba Grammar School for the final round of fixtures. It is always cold in Toowoomba, regardless of the predicted weather, so boys and families need to be prepared, especially with some early starts. Please allow a minimum of two hours travel time up the range and be careful of the reduced speed zones. Safe driving to all.

As the seasons draw to a close for both programs it would be remiss of me not to thank the Support Groups that underpin both programs and the parent body in general that do such a wonderful job in supporting all the boys. Thank you very much. There are so many things that occur on a Saturday and it is too hard to list all the people who assist in every way – simply, thank you to all.

As it is the final round for both Basketball and Rugby, it is appropriate for boys to consider a small present for their respective coach – please remember your coach with a small offering of thanks. Remember, if we don’t have coaches, then we don’t have teams.

Good luck to all for this Saturday, let’s finish off the year well.
