Acting Director of Sport | Mr Tyron Mandrusiak

We have enjoyed a busy first week across all sports with good performances in the pool, on the dam and on the cricket fields. The Volleyball program hosted a round of internal trials in preparation for this Saturday's Round 1 fixtures against TGS.

This week our First XI Cricket & First VI Volleyball Squads were presented on assembly. Both squads have shown good form to date, which will set them up well for the season ahead. Congratulations to the below boys on the leadership roles.

Cricket Captains:

  • William Prestwidge (Captain of Cricket)
  • Nicholas McGill (Vice Captain of Cricket)
  • Ryan Walker (Vice Captain of Cricket)

Volleyball Captains:

  • George Moore (Captain of Volleyball)
  • Zachary Hyams (Vice Captain of Volleyball)

At times, Terrace can be a very busy place and with so much on offer during Term 1, boys can feel a little overwhelmed. Clashes sometimes occur between sporting and cultural activities, which can cause heartache. When a clash occurs, boys are encouraged to contact the Sport and Culture Office and we can then work on a plan to ensure the commitment to both activities is managed.

Parents/caregivers can support our sport programs through dedicated Support Groups. Support Groups meet regularly, and all parents are most welcome to play an active role in supporting their sons and our programs. Meeting dates for these Support Groups are listed in the College Calendar.

Further information on Support Groups or our sport program can be obtained by contacting the Sport Office on +617 3214 5230.

All the very best for this weekend's games.

Round 1 of GPS Cricket saw the Terrace Cricket Program kick off the 2019 Season against Toowoomba Grammar School (TGS) with teams also playing supplementary matches against Nudgee College, as well as some Internal fixtures. The matches against TGS were competitive and a high standard of Cricket was witnessed in all age groups.

Terrace took the honours on the day winning 23 of 29 games, including a bonus point victory in the 1st XI fixture.  The program also performed strongly across the supplementary matches with 78% of all games played on the weekend won.

In 2019 Terrace once again has fantastic participation numbers for GPS, fielding 44 teams consisting of 568 students. Round 1 was a particularly special occasion for our new Year 5 and Year 7 students who represented the College for the first time and did Terrace proud in their presentation and application on the day.

Regardless of the results, Terrace Cricketers are encouraged to play hard but fair in all matches, being in humble victory and gracious in defeat. The program is happy to report the spirit in which Terrace Cricket teams play was visibly evident across all age groups on Saturday, both on the field and on the sidelines. The students and wider cricket community must be congratulated for this.
