Years 11 and 12 Program Leader | Mrs Loren Serafin-Huey

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the Program Leader for Years 11 and 12. My primary role is to provide the students with support in their academic journey so that together we can optimise their academic outcomes. I am located in the Student Services offices and I will meet with students who need to discuss their academic program, their study strategies or other relevant school related matters. I am available to meet with the students and parents/care givers preferably before or after school or during the breaks.

During Term 1, one of my responsibilities is to develop a Formation program for the Year 11 students. This study program can be found on Moodle / Formation / Year Eleven 2019 and it has a number of useful activities and links to guide the students this term. It is recommended that all students access this resource and work through the booklet and relevant resources to support them this year.

One important aspect of the Term 1 Study Program is the introduction of myQCE for the graduates of 2020. This is a resource developed by QCAA (https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au/). myQCE will help students to plan their pathway to achieving their QCE by the end of Year 12 and explore further study, training and career options. In particular, there is a module for the students to complete on Academic Integrity. This course is relevant as it will provide them with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the expectations of staff in respect to their academic conduct. For the current Year 12 students relevant QCAA information can be found at: https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/year-12-2019

All Year 11 and 12 students should have reviewed their Assessment Calendars and developed their Term Plan over the weekend. This will provide each student with an overview of the term and the pressure points to be aware of. By now students should have completed their first Friday Roll Call of the year. Friday Roll Call occurs at the end of the week and each student reviews what he has learnt during the week. The amount that is written in the summary will depend on what has been covered that week in each subject. How the notes are written up will depend on each student. The use of sketch notes is one way of completing Friday Roll Call.
Wishing you all the best for the year ahead. If you would like to contact me, please email on: LorenSerafin-Huey@terrace.qld.edu.au.
