Acting Director of Sport | Mr Tyron Mandrusiak

This week, we presented our Year 9 Open Rowers on assembly. Although our mighty Year 8 Learn to Row program didn’t get presented, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them on their efforts this season and look forward to having them back next season.

A snap shot of our year groups heading into Saturday’s Head of the River:

Year 9

This is the first year that the Year 9 cohort has been invited to compete at the Head of the River in the history of the GPS competition, which marks a unique event this year. Several crews across the age group have placed throughout the season, with the Year 9 1st Quad winning the opening race of the season.

Year 10

The point score crews that count toward the Old Boys’ Cup GPS Rowing Premiership start in Year 10. The Year 10s have been coming second in their age group points in the last few regattas and are looking to set up the day for the rest of the shed.

Year 11

The points score crews in Year 11 are worth double the Year 10s as they row in eights. Over the past few weeks, all three crews have finished in the top two with both the Year 11 1st VIII and Year 11 2nd VIII winning their respective races. These crews have finished on top of the points in their age group in the last few regattas as they look to build on the work of the Year 10 group.

Opens

With their final race this weekend, the boys have their last chance at Head of the River glory this weekend. We have seen promising results across all crews, with the 3rd VIII securing a second place on the weekend and the 2nd VIII moving through the field.  The Old Boys’ Cup will certainly come down to the wire with some great performances.

Open 1st VIII

Each week the crew has been moving through the field. With a courageous second place on the weekend in the final regatta prior to Head of the River, the Open 1st VIII are looking to have their race of the year this weekend.
