Year 7 Orientation
This afternoon the Callan Black Ensemble, the Black Concert Band, The Terrace Youth Choir and Terrace Junior Vocal Ensemble are performing for the College’s Year 7 Orientation.
Terrace’s Jazz Night begins tomorrow evening in Duhig Place at 6.15pm. Themed ‘Starry Night’, this event features our jazz ensembles and jazz vocalist Dr Kristina Kelman. Kristina is an academic, teacher, community music facilitator and jazz musician. Her research interests include the education of the aspiring musician. Kristina’s work also takes place in community music settings, most recently she collaborated with Australian ARIA award winner, David Bridie and First Languages Australia on a language project through original song. Since 2015, Kristina has coordinated an intensive recording program and music education project in Chennai, India, which produces an album of original music by emerging independent artists each year, distributed and promoted internationally. Kristina is a Brisbane based musician, who has had a successful 20 year career performing and recording as a jazz singer, and working as both a music director and conductor for various Australian projects.
In line with our expanding Music program, our jazz credentials are also growing. We have now expanded to a fifth jazz ensemble, who will feature on the night in their first performance outing. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Terrace Jazz Orchestra, Big Band 2, Big Band 3 and the Terrace Jazz Combo on their recent successes at the QCMF. This garnered Gold, Gold, Silver and Gold for each of these ensembles respectively.

Music Practice Hall
Can we please continue to support Music Practice Hall on Monday afternoons after school in the music centre? It is definitely having a positive impact on students and we would like to see this expand to a second afternoon, but we need to see more investment from students and families first.
A reminder to all Years 5 and 6 students to either take their instruments home (preferably) or stow them in the Music Centre, not the verandahs outside their classrooms. A reminder to all families that we require two weeks’ notice before the end of term to cancel lessons (Today Thursday 5 September). Any cancellations after this date will attract a full term’s worth of fees.
