Football Wrap
This weekend, the Terrace Football community will host Ipswich Grammar School at Tennyson which looks to be a tight battle. It’s that time of the season when teams are playing for top spots on their respective levels and everyone has a point to prove. It also marks the final home game day for Terrace Football in 2017. With massive numbers this year, we have had to have a number of in-house games and every match up has been played in the spirit of the game. It’s great to see all smiles after the game from both players and supporters alike.
On the Internationals Field we will start the day at 8am with the 4ths followed by the 3rds at 9.15am and 2nds at 10.30am. This will be topped off with the 1st XI at 12pm. Please get out there and support the Seniors in their last game at Tennyson after many years of them supporting Terrace Football no matter what grade they performed at. Our thanks and gratitude go out to all you young men that have played to the best of your ability for the Red and Black. Congratulations.
The 1st XI are having their best season in recent years and will need all the support they can get to topple the high flying IGS 1st XI. It will be an exciting encounter for all to watch.
Last weekend saw five Terrace Footballers, Max Mikkola, Darcy McCluskey,Byron McLeod, Noah Hitchcock and William Lalic make the Metropolitan North Squad. They all played in a four day tournament in Brisbane. Congratulations goes to Darcy McCluskey (Shadow Player).
Max Mikkola made the starting team of the Queensland Schools U19 XI. Max has been playing extremely well for Terrace and has received the position from a lot of hard work both on the field and off. Well done Max.
Rugby Wrap
Whole School Rugby Sign On
Rugby sign on is
now open with all families receiving an email last week inviting your son to
play rugby this season. Many thanks to all those families who have already signed
up as the playing numbers assist with the organisation of coaches, referees,
buses, field usage and ultimately how many teams we nominate in the GPS
competition. Registrations close Friday
2 June so please ensure you inform us of your intentions. Boys who participated
in Term 2 rugby are required to also register.
Please note that the boys born in 2007 (U10) will play
and be graded with the U11 boys. This decision was made by the GPS as only a
small number of GPS schools could field U10 teams. The upside is that all Year
5 boys will get to play with their class mates during their first year of rugby
here at Terrace.
1st XV Rugby Program
Day 2 of the GPS
selection trials takes place this Saturday at IGS. Boys privileged enough to be
selected in either of the GPS 1, 2 or 3 team’s boys will go onto the Qld
Schools Boys trials during the mid-year break.
Term 2 Preseason Program
It’s pleasing to
see the continual improvement of boys who have committed to our Term 2
preseason program. The time and effort on the training field will be put to
test this Saturday as we play a number of practice games against BBC. Please
see attached schedule for game times.
Refereeing at Terrace
Congratulations
to Year 12 student Charlie Marshall
who has been selected for the Secondary School Scholarship
Program. Selected students will be involved in a range of activities designed
to improve their knowledge of the game, enhance their performance as referees,
and expose them to a higher standard of rugby. This involves refereeing at
junior age championships, having a mentor, receiving extensive coaching and
being appointed number six for Reds games. At the QLD State Champs (June/July
holidays @ Albany Creek) the scholarship holders will go into “camp” (stay
somewhere together) and participate in pre match briefings and post-match
reviews of games just as super/premier rugby referees would.
Representative Rugby
Congratulations
to Angus Dillman, Charlie Condon, Quinn Siolo, Patrick Elekana
and Keegan Vandenberg who have been
selected to represent Met Nth at the U15 State Carnival. The carnival will take
place early Term 3. Also congratulations to Alex Salter, Harry McKim,
Xavier Grambower, Gerard Sheehan and Max Stevens on their selection in the U12 City Districts team.
Mid-Year Holiday
Rugby Clinics at Tennyson will take place on Wednesday 6 and Thursday
7 July. The purpose of the clinic is to prepare the boys for the upcoming GPS
Rugby season. The key emphasis will be core skills, unit and team focus leading
into our trial game against Brisbane Grammar School on Saturday 8 June at Tennyson.

Tennis Wrap
Thank you
to the Terrace Tennis community who came out and supported the annual Terrace
Tennis Doubles Championships. It was a brilliant day, full of fun and highly
competitive matches. Having such a day in Round 6 of the competition was
perfect. A little reminder about the reason one plays the game. It was a
fantastic social day which allowed for opportunities that wouldn’t normally
occur. The Van Balen brothers were able to team up and play together, great
mates Angus White and Xavier Lim were partners and many other boys from
different teams matched up together to play the day. Next year we will
introduce the parents of the players in to their own separate competition and
make it a great family day out. Congratulations to all the winners, runners up,
all boys who entered and a big thank you to the parents along with the Tennis
Supporters Group who made this day a great success.
This week
the program moves in to Round 7 of the competition against Ipswich Grammar
School (IGS). IGS have two home venues and they include the courts at their
playing fields at Brassall Tennis Centre, Pearse
Drive, Brassall and IDJTA Queens Park, Chermside Road, Ipswich. Please make sure you go to the
right venue. We also have supplementary matches to add to our home venues of
AMBI and Victoria Park so Terrace Tennis will be well represented around the
Brisbane district yet again.
Some
important information regarding the program as we move towards the end of the
season. Training will finish for the program (except 1st and 2nd
IV) on the Friday 9 June, the day before Round 8 against Toowoomba Grammar
School. The teams that are scheduled to play in Toowoomba are the Year 11 and
OPEN teams so please start to make travel arrangements. The only team that will
play against BBC in Round 9 is the 1stIV on the Friday 16th June at
BBC. This fixture will be a late afternoon/night match and will start directly
at the completion of the last day of school for Term 2. This match, should both
schools keep winning, will be the premiership deciding match and one of the
most hotly contested matches in GPS tennis history. It will certainly be worth
making the effort to see the match live as you will go a long way to see such
talent on the court at schoolboy level.
We wish
all boys representing the Terrace Tennis program the best of luck for Round 7.
