Dean of Students | Mr Damien Cuddihy

Welcome back to Term 4. The boys have made an excellent start this week and seem prepared for the challenges of the term ahead. Thank you for your support in assisting the staff to creating a positive tone around the corridors and in the classrooms. This term is short and students have heard the message throughout the week that they need to get down to work immediately.

Unfortunately a decision has been made to cancel the Inter-House Track and Field carnival tomorrow. It is always a really enjoyable and wonderful community building day.  However due to the 90% chance of showers predicted for tomorrow we have decided to cancel the event.

Earlier in the week, a number of our year levels had the opportunity to listen to guest presenter John Coutis. John was born with a significant physical disability leading doctors to believe that he wouldn’t survive 24 hours. With the support of his family and the medical fraternity, John turned 50 this year and has developed into a highly regarded motivational speaker. John shared stories of social and physical adversity during his schooling years and his great frustration that no one had the moral courage to stand up for him at various times. He challenged the boys to develop the confidence to step outside of their own comfort zones. John believes that his inner strength lies in the resilience he developed throughout school. He emphasised his core belief that he can’t control how others act but he can control himself. John also used the metaphor that they are the only person who can fill their own shoes. It was an excellent presentation which continued to deliver a number of key pastoral messages for our boys.

We will continue to push the message about road safety at the College. Students have been asked to ensure they only cross roads at designated crossings, even if it means walking slightly further to do so. The welfare of students is our top priority and we need them to help by making good decisions when it comes to their safety. I look forward to a positive and highly successful final term for all members of our community.
