Terrace Hosts the Australian Chess Federation

Over the holidays Terrace Chess hosted the Australian Chess Federation Queensland Championships. This event saw the highest rated Queensland players join with Grand Masters and International Masters from around the world in a three-day tournament. Well done to Yang Zhang, Ben Zhang, Alex Ong, Jack Giufre, Joshua Alfredson, Patrick Nix and Justin Jeyarajah who all competed in the Under 16 division with Yang coming fourth in his division. This is part of an initiative to immerse our best Chess players in high level competition to continue their journey of excellence.

National Music success

Well done to Jack Gardiner who performed in the Australian Honours Ensemble Program over the September holidays, he was joined by six other Terracians who were selected as part of the State Honours Ensemble Program. Congratulations also to the Terrace Rock Band who were awarded a Gold award in the 2019 Battle of the Bands competition.

Workshops

To continue the journey of fun education leading to excellence 55 boys attended the Brass and Percussion workshops as well as our first Rhythm Section workshop which was a joint initiative with JMC Music Academy and Terrace Music. The success of these Rhythm Section workshops will become evident in the years to come.

Debating trials

The 2020 Debating Trials will be held on the 19, 20 and 27 October.  This is for current Years 8 – 11 students to be placed in the correct teams for 2020. Sign on is via the below links and is open until this Friday.  Please see Mr Stormonth if you require further details.

Sign on for 2020 Debating is now open in Parent Lounge. As in previous years, it is a two-step process:
1. Accepting the invitation in Parent Lounge
2. Completing the form via the link provided in the invitation
 
The form allows us to help prepare for trials (2020 Years 9 to 12 teams) and allocations across all teams. If you are going to sign-on for next year, it would be greatly appreciated if you could do this ASAP to help with the organisation of trials and teams.

Terrace Perform at the Vatican

During the holidays I was lucky to participate in the 2019 Europe Tour as a member of the Terrace Choir and Waterford Soloists. The touring experience was unforgettable, visiting the United Nations and Christian Brothers in Geneva, then travelling through France and down though Italy performing masses in locations steeped in Catholic history. This concluded in a Mass sung in St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. It was an experience that meant a great deal to all that toured. Not only were we privileged to perform in such amazing locations, but we also grew as musicians and people by doing so.
