Terrace Chess

The 2018 GPS season was the best period in Terrace Chess history. Overall, the 1st team (Premier team) placed equal second with BBC, far above our expected result of fourth. As the Captain, it has been an absolute privilege to lead the team to our strongest result since 2015, where we came equal third with three other schools.

On the whole, despite some unlucky defeats at the end of the term, our junior team also outperformed its expected capability and even managed to draw against Churchie’s junior team, the winning team of the junior division. Likewise, although our lower teams usually have difficult prospects in their respective games, this year, they significantly improved and outperformed their competition with a third managing to attain a position on the podium. Thus, Terrace’s shift from chess being just a Term 3 activity, to being a whole of year endeavour has significantly contributed to our performance in 2018.

Yet, for the 1st team, our competition is not over yet, we have another opportunity to exceed expectations on 19 and 20 of October, where we participate in the State School Team Chess Championships. As this is the first time Terrace has ever qualified for this event, it is another milestone for the team.

I would like to thank everybody that made our performance this year possible, including: Chess Coordinator, Mr Herne, Mrs Brown for her consistent organisation, parents that aided in barbecues before games and every player that participated to put Terrace Chess on the map.

All British Day

Thank you to the many families who have signed on to help at the All British Day on Sunday 23 September.  We still require more families for the busy lunch time slots.  If you have an hour to spare, please go to the following link www.volunteersignup.org/A4J7L  and find a time that suits you.

As this is the only fundraising for the 2019 tours, we would encourage all Premier Ensemble families to come out and lend a hand.

If baking is your thing, home bake goodies will also be very gratefully received. Please contact our Terrace Performing Arts President, Mrs Kirsten Carroll – TPAPresident@terrace.qld.edu.au, or Mrs Tanya O’Meally – tmom099@yahoo.com.au, if you are able to assist with baking.

Save the Date - Casino Royale

If you have ever wanted to play Baccarat with James Bond or share a martini with Vesper Lund, or maybe having a chat with M or Le Chiffre is more your style, keep your diaries free for this year’s Terrace Jazz Night on Friday 26 October to be held underground at the Spring Hill Reservoir.
