GT v TGS

Thank you to all the families that made the trip up to TGS on Saturday for the final round of fixtures for the Basketball and Rugby programs.

The Terrace boys finished their respective seasons off well with both the Basketball and Rugby programs dominating the day across all age levels. The Basketball program won seven of the eight rounds through the season and the Rugby program won six rounds with one round drawn. Well done to the program coordinators Mr Sam Mackinnon and Mr Tyron Mandrusiak for their drive and vision and to Head coaches Mr Matthew Hamilton-Smith and Mr Tom Barker for their commitment and passion.

Thanks also to the coaches in both programs and to those teams that recognised these young men who gave their time and provided a small gift on the day to say thank you for the season.

The Support Groups and the parents underpin the success of these programs and they have been strong this year and have provided the necessary groundwork to keep the day’s activities running and providing community to all.  Thank you to all parents who are involved, but particularly the leaders of these two groups Mr Damian Hearne and Mr Mick Mullins.

To the young men of Year 12, thank you for your efforts this year and through the many years of representing the College. Results are one measure, but spirit and pride are the true test of the season. Thank you and I hope you have enjoyed yourselves.

For the record, the Basketball Program finished in second position overall as a program, with the 1st V finishing in sixth place. Congratulations to IGS on winning the premiership in 1st V Basketball.

The Rugby program also finished in second position overall as a program and the Gregory Terrace 1st XV finished in seventh position. Congratulations to NC on winning the 1st XV premiership.

Track and Field

The sporting season is by no means over for 2018, with the opportunity for the boys to finish the season strongly with the Track and Field Championships in Week 4 of Term 4. Focus during Terms 2 and 3 is heavily on the large team sports of Football, Rugby and Basketball, but the Track and Field boys have been consistent and working hard to improve their skills.

There is still an opportunity for boys to put their hands up and engage in Track and Field.

Previously, where boys were busy with other activities, now is the time to be engaged in sprinting, hurdling, throwing and jumping. If you have finished Basketball and Rugby, there are two weeks of holiday training available to you and four weeks of Track and Field in Term 4.

Do not leave it to the last minute to become involved.

There are a lot of boys that are needed from Rugby and Basketball to help the College out in the Under 16 and Open age levels. Finish the year well and participate to the end.
