Dean of Students | Mr Damien Cuddihy

The Parent Information Evenings began this week with the Years 5, 6 and 7 sessions being exceptionally well attended. The enthusiasm shown by parents and staff for these evenings builds on the vital partnership between home and school. This evening we continue with the Year 10 Parent Information Evening at Waterford Place. The Opening Mass and Year 12 Induction is on at the University of Queensland tomorrow. It is a very significant day on the Terrace calendar, and we look forward to celebrating this event with your son’s presence tomorrow.

The afternoon pick-up process has been a little less chaotic than in previous years. A reminder that the pick-up zone is located at the Centenary Pool carpark. We ask that you don’t park and wait for your son but rather drive through to where the staff are with the students. We are asking the students not to walk out onto the road but wait until you come to the curb before entering the car. If your son is catching public transport, I request that you speak to him about road safety and the need to cross at the lights. Please also discuss the need for common courtesy on the bus or train by offering his seat to an adult when required.

Thanks to parents for ensuring students were well presented last week. Our mantra to the boys is that how they wear their uniform is an outward sign of what their school means to them. It has been impressive so far. In Week 1, we focused on identifying students returning to the College with inappropriate haircuts. This week, the attention turns to uniform. If there is a uniform issue, students are required to obtain a uniform card from their House Dean. Students who are unable to present a uniform card on exiting the College in the afternoon will be given a consequence to assist them in making this process a priority during the day.

One aspect of the uniform which needs particular attention is the tightness of some school shirts.  If the shirt is too tight, it prevents the top button from being done up.  This button must be done up.  Regardless of what your son may tell you, tight shirts do not look good.  Please arrange for a new shirt that fits appropriately to be purchased from the uniform shop.

It is often a difficult first few weeks for our Years 5 and 7 students who are new to the College. They will settle over time.  However, whilst we have Parent/Mentor meetings next week, I would encourage you to contact your son’s House Dean or PC Mentor if you have any concerns.
