Director of Sport | Mr Damian Wright

As the year draws to a close and we farewell our Year 12 students this week, I thought it would be appropriate to thank all the boys who have represented the College both this year, in their Senior Year of schooling, or over the many years representing the College – whether they started way back in Year 5 in 2011, or any year since.

I hope the boys have enjoyed themselves, and I am sure going forward they will cherish the memories of playing with their mates and achieving their many goals over the years, be they team goals or personal challenges.  Thank you to all boys regardless of their teams or divisions.

Of course, there are a number of boys that were awarded leadership positions in their respective activities.  I would like to congratulate the following boys who achieved leadership positions during the year in their respective activities.

Sport Sign On

As one chapter of the Sports program closes another chapter opens and the Sport Sign on booklet for Term 1 Activities 2019 will be emailed out to families shortly asking for families to sign on for their preferred options in Term 1 2019.

Although boys may be engaged in Term 4 activities and they may have a clear understanding that they will continue to complete that activity, all families are asked to select their Term 1 activity to allow for a full picture of numbers and engagements – this allows the Sport Office to appropriately plan and allocate coaching resources.

As a rule of thumb, the season of activity that is in competitive season – Term 1 Rowing, Swimming, Cricket and Volleyball will always take priority in planning for families to attend training sessions.

Wherever possible the Sport Office will attempt to allocate training days for the Term 2 activities of Football, Tennis and Cross Country on alternate days for age levels in Term 1. However, there are limited facilities with some activities and there are only so many time slots available to allocate training sessions, and so some clashes may occur between activities – it is the parents call to prioritise, manage and balance the training loads for the boys.

Rowing and Cricket

Congratulations to the Rowing and Cricket communities for their successes in recent competitions. The Rowing program has held two time trials from their shed facility at Tennyson with outings against BGS, ACGS in the Senior Shed and TSS in the Junior Shed. I understand there will be another time trial coming up in 2 weeks v BBC, again from Tennyson.

Congratulations to the Toon Family – a name and family that have long been associated with the Terrace Rowing program through coaching and support over the many years. On Saturday the family were recognised with the naming of a new Sykes Racing Eight that will service the Year 11 1st VIII in 2019 and beyond.

The Cricket community have been holding breakfasts and BBQs down at the Victoria Park facility for parents/caregivers to come along and observe their sons at training. This is a great initiative from last year where the community can come together. Thank you to the Support Group for their organisation around all of this.

Competitively the “Powderfinger Cup” has been held and won by Gregory Terrace in the 2018/2019 season. Well done to the boys, with some stand out performances by a few young men which saw a dominate display by the Terrace boys across several teams.
Charlie Sims in the Year 9A team recorded great figures of 5/20 and Tom Fischer 9B was 75 not out. In the end, the final game score was Terrace on 11 points and BGS on 5 points.
