The Weekly Wrap

Cricket Wrap

In Round 2 of GPS Cricket, Terrace and Brisbane Boys College (BBC) squared off in the majority of fixtures with supplementary matches against Brisbane Grammar School (BGS) and Anglican Church Grammar School (ACGS) also played.

It was a tightly fought round of Cricket, emphasised by two tied matches (9A and 8B) and a thrilling 1st XI fixture in which BBC claimed victory in the final over of the match with a meagre one run deficit. Furthermore, the ‘A’ matches were split evenly between the schools in some high-quality matches of schoolboy cricket.

Terrace were able to claim the day against BBC, winning 19 out of 30 matches, including eight of the 14 A/B fixtures, which is a great result.  Overall, it was a successful day on the field for Terrace, winning 61% of all matches played and most importantly competing until the final ball in all matches.

Congratulations to the Year 7 age group who completed a Terrace 'clean sweep', winning all of their seven matches (5 v BBC, 2 v BGS) on the weekend. This is a great achievement for any age group and highlights the team-first approach that this group of students are engaging in, both at training and on game day.

It was once again great to see all 44 Terrace teams representing their College and the program looks forward to another great fixture this weekend in Round 3 of GPS Cricket versus traditional rivals Nudgee College.

Volleyball Wrap

Terrace Volleyball began the season with a near perfect record against Toowoomba Grammar School, winning 18 matches out of 20. In their first game of Volleyball for Terrace, the 7As won convincingly, 2 sets to nil.  Xavier Ryan was named MVP for his strong serving and outstanding passing. Isaac McAuliffe’s strong attacking at the net helped the 8As begin their season with a 2-0 win. The 9As started the game strongly, but ran into some trouble during the second set, forcing a deciding third set. Hudson Seefeld’s attitude and consistent serving pulled the team out of trouble to win 2-1. Joa McMahon was dominant for the 10As in their 2-0 win. The 11As had a slow start but managed to pull through to win the third set, and Will Caufield was a strong attacking option throughout the game. The 2nd VI won 2-0 and Hamish Freer demonstrated excellent passing to allow the setters to distribute the ball. The 1st VI showed they will be a dominant team this season and opened their GPS campaign with a crushing 3-0 win over TGS. Cooper Little gave an incredible display of attacking presence at the net. Round 2 will see Terrace Volleyball match up against a typically strong BBC program, and we look forward to some hotly contested games at BBC on Saturday.
