Dean of Studies | Mr Mason Hellyer

As we come to the end of the examination period, it is important to take time over the upcoming holiday break to reflect upon the term.

Your son’s Semester 1 report will be available on the Parent Lounge after 9am on Tuesday 2 July. The results contained within this report will provide point in time data to indicate your son’s progress. This data is the starting point for discussions and reflection to occur regarding a student’s progress.

Whilst the individual subject result is an important indicator, reflection on how the result was achieved is a much more powerful message. A strong result will reinforce a student’s work ethic or positive change to study habits. A disappointing result will highlight the need to modify existing work habits and work ethic. It is vitally important that these messages are explained and reinforced.

To support the discussion you have with your son, Parent/Teacher/Student interviews will be held on 24 July and 31 July. These interviews are an opportunity to reflect on the Semester 1 result and to work with teaching staff to develop strategies to enhance academic performance. Booking times for these interviews will occur through Parent Lounge. Further information regarding this process will be available with your son’s report.

Additionally, there are a number of key academic information evenings during the first half of Term 3. Semester 1 Academic Medal Assembly will be held on 6 August and will recognise students' academic success and improvement from Semester 1 results. There will be information evenings for the following groups:

• 5 August - Year 11 2020 Subject Selection Evening
• TBC - Year 11 English and Literature and Music Extension information evening
• 15 August - Year 12 Parent and Student QTAC evening
• 22 August - Year 9 2020 Subject Selection Evening

I trust that students and parents have a restful and enjoyable holiday period.
