Director of Culture | Mr Matt Cocking

Thank you to the students and families who participated in cultural activities and those who supported them for a tremendous ten weeks. Term 3 has again been a busy term with great success.

This term our students have returned from a successful Music tour to the USA, where our students were educated at the Music for All Summer Symposium. We were triumphant at the Queensland Catholic Schools Music Festival with our best results to date: 20 Gold, 11 Silver and 1 Bronze. Our Queensland Debating Union teams ran concurrently and again engraved the St Joseph’s College name on several perpetual shields. Well done to our state champions 8.1, the entire activity for placing fourth in the state and our very own coordinator Mr Andrew Stormonth for being awarded Queensland Debating Coordinator of the year.

While Chess appeared to place lower on the GPS ladder (seventh) the individual results are far greater than this shows, with all students fielding very well against greater opposition and having the greatest increase in individual Queensland Junior Chess ratings. This is the first year we have competed with a full team of 44 rated players.

Theatresports finished well with two of our four teams making it through to the Queensland semi-finals. Thank you all for an impressive term and especially to the coaches and coordinators who are so passionate.

Stay tuned to our Facebook story as we weave our way through Europe with the Terrace Choir and Waterford Soloists who will embark for Europe on Monday concluding with a performance as a part of the 5pm Mass on 2 October at the St Peter’s Bassilica.
