Dean of Studies | Mr Mason Hellyer

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that you had a restful and refreshing break from the busyness here at the College. Holidays are a time for all students to rest, reflect and reconnect with family and friends.

Reflection is an important part of the holidays. Reflection allows us to re-examine our achievement from the previous term and ask questions about the next step forward. On Monday and through next week, we will formalise this process through Parent/Teacher interviews. These interviews allow us to discuss what has occurred and what strategies can be put in place to improve.

It is also important that students participate in these conversations because, ultimately, the student must implement the changes and do the work. However, more importantly, the positive student/teacher relationship develops by being included in the discussion. Interviews for Wednesday can still be booked through Parent Lounge.

During this first week, I have been meeting with all year levels and reinforcing the message of being prepared. This term is a short one with many disruptions due to public holidays, College events and NAPLAN. Therefore, it is vitally important that students commence their preparation, planning and revision now. Furthermore, students should:

  • Prepare their study timetable
  • Plan how to use their study time effectively
  • Plan how they will work toward their assignment draft and due dates
  • Set their academic goals for the term
  • Prepare to work hard

Ultimately it is up to each student to take responsibility for their learning. However, the College is here to work with each student on their academic journey. There are several initiatives that students can access to assist with their study:

  • Assessment calendars have been distributed to students to assist with their planning.
  • Staff tutoring is offered to students by our generous staff. The staff tutoring list can be found on the College App.

Study Group is available to Year 11 and 12 students only every afternoon from 3.15 – 5.30pm – and every morning from 7.30am.
