Deputy Principal | Mr Damien Fall

Welcome to the new term to all in the Terrace Family. We have entered new territory by commencing the term with a student free day and Parent/Teacher interviews. Strong consideration was given to the method used for this round of interviews. The sudden lockdown at the end of Term 1 justified our conservative decision to conduct interviews remotely via Teams. We will continue to monitor the pattern across schools, follow external advice and survey staff and parents/caregivers to determine how we will conduct interviews in the future. A survey will come home following next week’s interviews. We are very keen to gather as much feedback as possible about your experience and determine how we will proceed with interviews in the future. As always, the interviews have been very well attended, and I thank our dedicated teachers for the way they have prepared for interviews and provided feedback and strategies. We are a relationship-based organisation and I firmly believe good relationships are based on respectful interactions. Sometimes, results don’t go the way we want them to, but the focus in the interviews needs to be on strategies for consolidation or improvement. I thank parents and caregivers for entering into these interviews in a spirit of respectful partnership.

In staff news, we congratulate Mrs Emma Hatchett and her husband Andrew, who welcomed their beautiful twins Theodore and Edith during the holidays. We wish their family the very best as they get to know each other, and our best wishes go to Emma as she takes leave for the remainder of the year. Xavier House remains in good hands with Mr Michael Wooldridge acting as House Dean for this period.

Mr Werner Botha has taken a short period of leave and will be absent from the College for the first two weeks of term. His classes will be taught by Mr Geoff Smith and Mr Tim Carr during this time. Mr Stewart Webb will also be taking two weeks of leave in Weeks 3 and 4 of this term, and Mr Carr will teach his classes.

With a number of short weeks and other unavoidable interruptions over the next nine weeks, this term is set to disappear very quickly. I wish everyone the very best.
