Debating

GPS Debating wrap

After a fast-paced, hard-fought GPS Debating season, we have a few success stories to share.

Firstly, our Senior A boys – Luke Ames, Eden Chan, Fergus Farrell, Thomas Musgrave and Thomas Nunn-Rutledge finished their season in second place after a decisive win against the third-placed TSS Senior A. special mention must be made of Tom Nunn-Rutledge and Tom Musgrave for their respective positions as a speaker and reserve speaker in the Queensland State Debating team.

Congratulations to our 9.1, 11.2 and 9.2 teams for taking home first-place finishes in their GPS Debating seasons as well. Your success will place you in great stead as you progress through the QDU competition and beyond.

All our debating teams have acquitted themselves well across every round of competition and have displayed the sportsmanship and work ethic we strive for.

To all our GPS debaters and coaches, thank you for approaching such a busy season of debates with enthusiasm. Term 1 was challenging as always, and we often found ourselves short for preparation time as we sought balance in everything we do in the College. The extra hours you put in for training sessions and in your free time have been reflected by our overall success as a program and your continued growth as young debaters and gentlemen.

Well done, and thank you.

Debating Coordinator - Mr Sonny Ali

QDU Debating

With Term 1 ending early, the Round 2 Year 8 and Senior A were rescheduled to Wednesday night.  Students must check emails and social media for any alterations to the advertised QDU schedule.  There have been several postponements, and we encourage all Debating families to keep vigilant with information checking.

Date Claimer - Debating Dinner

Please add our Debating Dinner to your calendars.  This year, it will be held at Victoria Park on Thursday 26 August. Tickets and further information will follow in the coming weeks.  We look forward to celebrating our GPS and QDU debating seasons with our Debating families.

Chess

Chess training has recommenced on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.  If your son wants to be a member of our GPS Chess team or just play in the Chess Club, we welcome any new – and returning – students.

We have engaged Gardiner Chess for specialist coaching this year and are looking forward to seeing our students prosper under this expert tutelage.

Any queries regarding Terrace Chess, please contact Mr David Giles – Terrace Chess coordinator.

Middle School Musical

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Our young thespians certainly worked hard over the Easter break with five days of rehearsals.  Thank you to our families who accommodated these rehearsals into their family holidays.

A sincere thank you to our helpers who gave their time in the wardrobe department at these sessions.  Having parents/caregivers who can give their time not only keeps our costs down, but it is also an excellent opportunity for parents/caregivers to be involved in their sons’ activities.

We are looking for parents/caregivers to assist behind the scenes for the three nights of the musical.  Assistance is required at the bar each night and in the Green Room to assist with makeup and dressing.  If parents/caregivers can help or need more information, please contact our TPA Chair, Mrs Jenny Barends – TPAChair@terrace.qld.edu.au

Tickets will go on sale next week for our production with show dates of 6-8 May.  Our Middle School Musical is held in the Edmund Rice Theatre at Waterford Place.  This is a 200-seat theatre, and we encourage our Terrace Family to get in quickly.

Tickets will be available via the Terrace App, Terrace Events, Terrace Facebook page and the Culture Instagram page.

Holiday Workshops

Many of our cultural students participated in workshops and activities over the recent holiday period.  Two workshops were held for our Debating students with great participation between students and coaches. Our musicians spent time practising at Tennyson. We are once again privileged to walk in the Brisbane Anzac Day march on Sunday 25 April.

Support Group Meetings

Our next Support Group meetings will be held on 25 May.  Support Group meetings will be held online if necessary.
